the new gig

  • so, after a couple weeks at the new gig, i can honestly say that i ain't a fan.
i spend all evening running around trying to keep my head above water....don't even really have time to take a break.

and despite what i was told in the interview, i have been working the weekends (i was told every 3rd or 4th at the interview).

focus is now trying to get on a daytime schedule....2nd shift is starting to drag on me, and now if i am working weekends, time with family will pretty much go down the drain. until that happens, i guess i will just bank the OT and pay down some bills......

  • How is it compared to the old hole?

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

at the old hole, i got to listen to my music, had a lot of downtime (which sucked in it's own way), and had weekends off....but put up with a lot of drama.

new hole, i am on the go all the time, no real time for breaks, and it looks like i am gonna be working about one day a weekend. on the flip side, I think i am losing some pounds, because i don't have time to break, so I don't really eat once i leave for work, where as at the old hole, if i had downtime, it was easy to get something to munch on along with some soda in the cafeteria with the swipe of a badge.

  • It's really a lie that everyone is happy at work. It sucks growing up. Good luck though.

  • A little saying I came up with a long time ago: That's why they call it work. if it were great it'd be a hobby that you got paid for.

Buck up Rob, I bet once you get your feet under you and get into a routine things might smooth out.

  • It is what it is....
I originally had three things i was looking for with a new job and that i would take 2 out of 3 on

    1) same or more money
    2) first shift schedule
    3) mininal mandatory OT

    1) i took a cut, but have potential to make more
    2) 2nd shift schedule, looks like typically 6 days a week
    3) we have had mandatory work since i started (despite what i was tild in interview)

Hopefully it geta better, but i shoulda stayed at the job i knew that sucked, considering that the only time i see the missus (weekends) is now held hostage

  • I work for a big corporation and what I was told in my interview is about 50% true. Probably less than that. This place is kind of a nightmare to work for. There is so much drama and BS my co-workers and I have to deal with.

  • so, last week i logged in 65 hours of work.

my parents asked me how i was liking the new job, but got pissed when I told them what i thought of it --- and especially when i get irritated about what i was told in the interview and how it really is.

they think i am making a big deal out of nothing, despite being lied to in the interview.

don't know why they ask if they are gonna get irritated at my answer.......not much i can do about it now until i find a new gig...but considering how long it took me to get this gig (i can now see why the process went fairly quickly---would imagine it is hard to get people to stay when you tell people one thing, and do another when they get in the door).

  • I guess there is an advantage to being an old cuss. Us old fokers don't work real hard. In fact, it's almost embarrassing how little time I spend at the office and even less time I spend actually working.

i am just pissed that i was lied to during the interview, and that i based a good part of my decision to take the position on this lie. of course, there is no recourse to take against them and I just have to deal until something else comes along.....I already have an email typed out to send out to HR, once they get an official weekend schedule posted.
