    A) Any of you who think that those fools on crotch rockets are "my people" haven't been paying attention to me at all on here. cool

    B) There are people on motorcycles doing stupid crap all the time, I agree, but they are almost always a danger to themselves and their passengers, not the driving public at large. Incidents where motorcyclists hurt and kill others are relatively few, unlike people in cars/trucks who kill us all the time. I have buried friends and every one of them was killed by a car, not by another motorcycle or themselves.

    C) And my last word on this subject is this: ANYBODY who texts while driving is a complete censored idiot.

    A) that is irrelevant if they are "your people" or not. Do people in 4 wheeled vehicles get the same consideration from those in the motorcycling circle depending on what they drive?

    B) so if a motorcyclists weaves in and out of traffic and causes somebody in a car to slam on the brakes, they aren't a danger to that car or the people that may behind that car?

    C) i agree, however the feel good laws on the books now don't really deter the activity.

You're trying to say soccer moms texting is more dangerous than bikers. Just pointing out that, IMO, you're wrong. Agree to disagree, that's fine

Nope, not agreeing to disagree on this one. If my stance is a mere opinion, it is one gleaned from over 30 years of high-mileage riding. I have almost never had a person on a motorcycle threaten my life, but people in cars on cell phones threaten my life, without exaggeration, virtually every time I ride. So, that soccer mom with her mini-van full of kids and her cell phone are an exponentially greater threat to my life than any motorcyclist.

This is nonsense. A crazy ass person on a motorcycle weaving in and out of traffic at accelerated speeds causes just as much risk to other motorists as said soccer mom would

    A) Without reading backwards in the thread, somebody said I should preach to my "people" and I am stating, for the record, that idiots on crotch rockets are not my people and give sane and safe motorcyclists a bad name. Not sure what you are asking in the question, but people on four or more wheels while texting (which was the subject of my post in the first place) are a threat to me no matter what they are driving.

    B) Not even close to the same extent. If you have ever been on a motorcycle and been faced with somebody who is driving erratically, you would understand my point. It is a rare event indeed for a motorcyclist to make a misstep, intentional or otherwise and cause death and/or dismemberment of somebody in a car. It happens just about every censored day that a car causes the same.

    C) I would argue that there are no good laws on the books. Merely stating that something is illegal is worthless unless there is a coordinate effort at enforcement and punishment. And I will add that driving while talking on the cell phone or texting is the same as driving while intoxicated so the same level of vehemence and indignation should be directed at those people as is directed at drunk drivers.

But the number if 4wheel vehicles on the road is a lot more than the number of motorcycles on the road. Of course there are more accidents because the majority of people drive cars

Nonsense? The risk is nowhere near equivalent and I can only speculate that you harbor a bias against motorcyclists or else you would see the logic here. I am done wasting my time with this.

Then I will ask you one question:

If I drive crazy in my Silverado and rear-end somebody in a car or if I drive crazy in my Silverado and rear-end somebody on a bike, do you really think the risk of death or dismemberment is equivalent? How about if I rear-end that car with my Harley. Good grief....

Why am I even bothering with this? no

Funny you keep coming back. We are talking about the danger of the two vehicles and people driving them, not the damage that would occur with each type. Good grief man I'm not dumb. I know the pickup causes more damage. I'm just stating that a person on a bike can be just as dangerous as your soccer mom texting

I think you're misunderstanding his point. All he's saying is that an idiot on a motorcycle can be just as dangerous to people on the road as an idiot in a car.

But you are missing the point. If you hit a horse its going to damage your car, if you hit my dog its going to be a spot on the road. That means the horse caused more damage. Maybe my dog caused some to the bottom of your car but not just as much as the horse did. It's not hard to understand.

I understand that and I don't think anyone is denying that, but its not the point I'm trying to make. There seems to be a belief among some (not necessarily anyone ITT) that bikers are infallible. I'm just saying that an idiot operating any machine can be dangerous and motorcycles are definitely included in that.

I thought he said he knew that idiot bikers were out there. But to say its the same damage is not right. Obviously a motorcycle can cause damage and it happens but a truck or car doing the same thing will cause more.

Not only did I say that, Misty, I also used the terms "death" and "dismemberment" on more than one occasion to define the risk to which I was speaking.

The damage can be just as bad, though it obviously usually isn't. That's all I'm (and I'm pretty sure SnC is) saying. I don't think any of us here really disagree with the viewpoints of others. What we appear to have here, is a failure to communicate. No matter. cheers

    A) i said that motorcyclists should preach to their own (as far as 2 wheeled motor vehicle operators--i never brought crotch rockets into it), as i pointed out a recent situation in CR where a motorcyclist sped down a fairly narrow road and lost control...they could've easily hit bar patrons on a warm spring night that might have been out on the sidewalk smoking. the guy on the news was preaching motorcycle awareness, when no other vehicle was involved (especially one on four wheels). it was not the proper place to be preaching motorcycle awareness when he jumped on a motorcycle drunk, and ended up killing his passenger, and could've really killed pedestrians nearby as well...he should be talking to his fellow motorcyclists about riding while impaired, and really while we are at it, weaving in and out of traffic switching lanes...i could see you in a lane behind me, but if you weave in and out of lanes back and forth, i can see how easy it is for a automobile operator to lose track of him. ....but as far as the example i pointed out, you had a guy who thought he could jump on a motorcycle and be ok, even though he was drunk. another incident this past year, you had a guy take off on the marion bypass after getting pulled over and getting into a high speed chase with a cop....they guy ended up crashing and dying and there was a lot of heat on the cops for pursuing him, just because he was on a motorbike...even though he was the one who decided to flee.

I have also had motorcyclists do u-turns in front of me, causing me to hit my brakes and cut my speed...just because their vehicle has the capability of making a turn like that. one guy looked at me like I was an idiot when he eventually pulled over to park his bike and i stopped next to him and asked him if he advocated for motorcycle safety from 4 wheelers while pulling stunts like that. i think he thought i was more pissed because he took a parking spot (that i wasn't going to take anyway) rather than uturning in front of me.

I just get tired of the holier than though "watch for motorcyclists" chest thumping that occurs when there are many times they don't do themselves favors with the way they operate their bikes.

B), i guess if we want to compare the missteps of people in 4 wheeled vehicles to motorcycles, we should also look at the number of cars on the road compared to motorcycles.

    C) i agree with all your points regarding C
