    not to derail this thread....but these laws on the books now to derail texting and driving aren't gonna do a lick of good....
    instead, how about we say "go ahead, text and drive...if you are confident in your abilities, that is fine...but if you cause an accident as a result of doing so, it is automatic loss of license for an unreal amount of time and a hefty fine. if there is serious injuries and or deaths as a result, you can add jail time onto it. no exceptions.

    Only if it is a felony to cause an accident and 2nd degree murder if someone dies. As a biker, I think anybody so censored stupid as to believe they can text and still drive responsibly should be eliminated from the gene pool. And yes, I feel that harshly about it and I don't give a censored if I offend somebody with that opinion.

    I agree but I don't think it really matters whether you are a biker or not, people that do it are putting all other drivers on the road in danger not just bikers

    Yep bikers or not it's dumb. Bikers are really dangerous, as are semis. Anyone can be dangerous

    The difference, of course, is that if that idiot texting crosses the line and hits your car, you have an insurance bill. If they cross the line and hit me, I am dead and my wife misses me.

    And let me know when you ever see a biker that is as dangerous to others on the road as a soccer mom or a teenager with cell phone.

    I can give you hundreds of examples in central Nebraska. Any kid under 30 on a crotch rocket. Have never seen anyone drive one safe. I'd say the way they zip between cars and reach unsafe speeds in town is unsafe just like a soccer mom texting

    I have seen a lot of people on motorbikes do dumb stuff. Hell, in cedar rapids last year, on st pattys day somebody decided to take a passenger on the back of their bike and speed through the czech village area drunk. Hit a speed bump and crashed and both died. Of course in the news a few weeks later the friends were having a gathering and one of the people was talking about motorcycle awareness. Ummmm, there was no other vehicles involved, and the guy was acting like a hotshot on a bike....maybe start preaching to your own

  • As far as my original comment, it is under the assumption that no feel good law is going to eliminate people texting and driving (look at drinking and driving) make the risk of doing so a huge deterrent.

    This. I see bikers do extremely dangerous stuff all the time. I also see bikers who are very aware and very safe while riding. It's the same as people driving a car: some are idiots and some are responsible. It really is a microcosm of the human race.

    B) There are people on motorcycles doing stupid crap all the time, I agree, but they are almost always a danger to themselves and their passengers, not the driving public at large. Incidents where motorcyclists hurt and kill others are relatively few, unlike people in cars/trucks who kill us all the time. I have buried friends and every one of them was killed by a car, not by another motorcycle or themselves.

    C) And my last word on this subject is this: ANYBODY who texts while driving is a complete censored idiot.

    To your point B....it is based on size. A motorcycle to a car is like comparing a train to a tractor. The train always wins. I know the crotch rocket isn't your crowd, but we can't just narrow it down to true bikers
