is it typical for employers....

  • to straight out lie in an interview process?

    i was told a couple things during my interview, that if i was told how it really is going down, I would never have accepted the job offer.....because while the gig i had before stunk on ice, I at least was able to have a little bit of a life outside of work because I had weekends off.

    i pretty much told during the interview process that there was a weekend rotation of every 3-4 weekends....and that on occasion there in mandatory OT, but it is very rare.

    Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind working a little OT...but after working last sunday and have to work this saturday, I will have about 64 hours in this week (oh, and my first break after a 10 hour shift was as I was walking to the timeclock to leave last night) Pretty much, my work schedule is going to be 6 days a week, which blows the lid off of what i was told during the interview process on their being a weekend rotation, and rare mandatory OT.

    working on 2nd, I didn't have much of a life outside of work M-F at the old gig, but now I took whatever life i did have and it got tossed in the garbage...sucks the big donkey schlong.

  • I have a friend who was told, during the interview process, that she was being hired as a security guard (which is what she was qualified for). She was hired by a retirement community and they had her doing maintenance, chauferring, laundry, snow removal, and very little security. So it does happen.

    When they officially post the updated schedule for weekends, and i am on it ( i was verbally told the other day by bossman that it would be one weekend day), i was gonna send out an email to HR lady.....although at this point, i am sure i am in a tough s**t situation.

    but, is it common where they specifically tell you one thing, but then the exact opposite happens when you get in the door? like, if she asked if she would have other duties aside from being a gaurd, and they told her "no, that is all you will be doing", and then she accepted the job based on that, and then she got in there and said, oh by the way, we need you to remove snow, fix this and that..........

    i mean, if I went in the interview and didn't ask and then cried foul once i got in there...that is on me for not asking the right questions....but i asked, i was told a few things and the complete opposite happens

    is it perfectly acceptable to say, when asked why I am looking to leave (especially since i have only been there about a month), is that I accepted the job based on a couple things told to me during the interview process, that turned out not to be accurate, and if told about these things during the interview process, I would've reconsidered accepting this position.

  • i should say,....i wouldn't even be bothered with the weekend deal if I was on first shift. being on second, with my wife on first shift, and my boy in school 3 mornings out of the week, that was usually my time to get caught up with the fam, and get a chance to hang out with other friends as well....and i would've been fine if it was a 3 week rotation, as what they told me during the interview....because then i know that 2 out of those three weekends, I could make plans for my time off.....

    I would but I've never been interviewed for a real job so... Either way its bs that they tell you something but make you do something else. I'd definitely explain to the next interviewer why you're upset with your current position and also explain that you aren't a hit and run type of guy.

    I think it's perfectly acceptable to tell them that. Being honest and upfront is always your best bet.

    Is it an interview in another dept there or somewhere else? If it's not with that company, absolutely do not tell them you're interviewing somewhere else. Call in sick if you have to.

    it is an interview with another company....i am not telling my current employer i am interviewing elsewhere...especially after a month, but being at the gig for a month, I am sure i will be asked why i am looking to leave.

    oh, and tonite, one guy who was hired about a month before me was bitching about having to work all weekend.....and how he has pretty much worked every weekend. I was like "yeah, if I was told exactly how it was like, rather than what i was actually told in the interview, i would not have accepted the job"

    his reply "only working 1 weekend out of every 4?' i was like..."yeah, that is part of it"
