  • so the last, say month, i have been extremely apathetic when it has come to school in general. missing classes, not doing homework, the works. i have lost letter grades in most classes in this period and i am don't care, but i know i should. drop me a line please to pick me up from this slump i have been in and show me the light that is handwork and a good future.

  • Before I read this post I was typing a post on another board asking a question about going back to school because I never finished my degree. I went for a couple years and was stubborn as hell and thought the stupid crap they were teaching was so useless, which it was, but that attitude bit me in the ass because I stopped going.

I don't know how much it has hurt be professionally, but not having a degree is something that personally bothers me and at 35 I'm thinking about going back and getting it, just to get it. So, what I would say to you, just get that crap over with so you're not my age, stuck in a professional rut and personally pissed off at yourself for not doing it the first time around.

  • well, finish up or you could have a hard time finding a job...like me shrug

unless you are spending a ton of money on a major that will not lead to a lot of options in the career field

  • You could end up like my husband and load trucks 12 hours 5 days a week with working every weekend at a place that will probably close in a few weeks and be in your 30's looking for a job. Most likely he will have to go back to school now with a wife and 2 kids to support. Do it now.

Damn, that sucks. Sorry to hear. You guys probably aren't in an area with a lot of jobs either, are you?

  • I'm sure you don't like losing because nobody does. Be the best at what you do. The only way to be the best is to outwork the rest.

It does suck but honestly, this job sucks we have no family time and he is never going to do anything to change the situation so closing might be good for us. The plan for now is he would go to school and I would go back to making pizza at night for a 2nd job. We will be broke but change can be good.

Yeah, it can. Hope it all works out for you. Things can always be worse.

  • About the only thing I know "for sure" is that if you quit now, it will be ten times harder getting started again. Ten years after I graduated from college in 76, I tried to go back and get a masters. I went to night school and worked days while trying to care for two children and a wife who was on disability with Depression. I ran out of mojo after 4 1/2 years of that. I had collected 24 hours of a 32 hour masters program in Psych at Western Illinois. I never finished. Get it done now. Find some sort of cheap hobby and get some escape time but keep at it my friend. It IS worth in in the long run.

I laughed at this, but only because it is so true!!

ECU, you are young now, and if school is a drag now it will be 1000 times worse when you are older. I will tell you what I told my youngest son who thinks school is a drag. YOu don't really need to retain all the useless sh#t that they will feed you in some classes, you only need to know that stuff for a term. Play the game and get the piece of paper and in the end you can laugh and say I beat them at their own game. You have a wealth of opportunity ahead of you, so don't be your own worst enemy and limit those opportunities. Besides, if you think school is a drag, wait until you get a career. I have been at my job for 22 years and there are times when I get burnt out and struggle... and this is a job that I trained for and went to school for. You're going to go through periods in your life where you feel in a rut, that is only natural and human. But don't let those down times persuade you to take your eyes off the prize. The difference between winners and losers is that winners will keep going even though the going is tough, the losers will just quit and accept something less. Life is a marathon my friend, not a sprint.
