hon or hun?

brads post in the misty thread got me thinking. When/if you ever shorten the word honey, as in a term of in deer mint, do you hon or hun?
I get confused whenever anyone says hon, in my mind its spelled hunny, not honey.... what say you?

I think when I call people honey it is spelled hunny and when it's food it is honey so yeah I would shorten it to hun and not hon. But, my computer says hunny and hun are both wrong and honey and hon are ok.

I shorten it to hun, because my first grade teacher taught me how short vowel sounds work.
