  • So, I am gonna be getting new phones this week as it is as cheap now to terminate my service early as it would be to use my phone insurance on my current phone to get a refurb for about 7 months.

so, i was planning on going with an iphone, because i did not necessarily have the best luck with my android (and i might be a motorola thing, as I have never had a motorola that worked great). Well my wife went to look at the available phones today and somone we both used to work with was working at the cell phone place. She was telling him what we were looking for and he said that he had a Samsung Galaxy but got an iphone and regretted it. said issues with the OS taking a lot of storage, dealing with itunes (which i hated doing before i got a windows 7 machine) and some other stuff.

I have many concerns with my android phone that i am reluctant on taking a chance with another one:

    1) the hold button placement on the screen when i am talking is always getting hit by my ear.

    2) battery life sucks. not even a year and a half old and I am recharging this thing 2 or 3 times a day

    3) my android has really small internal storage. i have had to delete the whole 6 apps i have had due to me continually getting a low storage message. someone said that their android saved all the emails, even deleted ones which was eating up storage and they had to go in and get it set up?

there are a few other things that have annoyed me about this phone but those are my three big concerns right now. so, while the fanboys will tell me why the other one sucks and their is the best...i am soliciting unbiased opinions. i am not an apple fanboy, the only apple products i have owned is an ipod nano and ipod touch, but the iphone is where i am heavily leaning.

so, i am sure fanboys will tell me why one sucks over the other one...but in the end,

  • I just read through this today because I'm thinking about getting a different phone, too. Might not be too much help, but there's some good stuff.

  • thanks, will give it a read.

i also don't like on my android how you have to go to task manager to manually shut down apps. is that still the deal with newer models. I don't think you have to do that with the iphone.

You can set the android to automatically shut down apps. I have a droid and I've never done it, but I know that you can. I'm leaning toward an Iphone as well.

I done quite about of reading on both and it seems the general consensus is that droids are preferred by real techie people because they're more advanced than the iphone, but the iphone is a lot more user friendly for the average Joe. I don't need to be hacking and rooting into my own phone to make it crack national security codes, so I'd rather have something simple.

I have a Motorola Droid X, and i have had no problems. I'm up for an upgrade in 8 days, and I'm thinking about getting another Motorola Droid, but with 4g. The only problem with the droid X is the battery life, but that just recently started happenings. Most people that i know hate their iPhones.

I think I am going to get a motorola droid razr maxx. It supposedly has extra long battery life and has a lot of cool features.

A few reasons that i can think of off hand are: cannot replace the battery, when it dies, you need to get a new phone. Quite a few friends have told me they have broken multiple screens, I have never broken a screen on any phone I have had. Some dislike iTunes. Almost all hate playing games on their iPhones.

I guess its all just personal preference. I've never had an iPhone, so i can't speak personally on the matter, just repeat what I have been told by people who have one. Some love it, but a lot dislike it as well. I love the Android phones, so i doubt I will ever get an iPhone.

  • I've had 1 or 2 Motorola's before and never had problems, have had 2 LG's and countless problems, my HTC is usually great although reception around Iowa City is pretty retarded, especially in the University buildings. I've had the low storage space thing before but my main problem with that is just that I have trouble finding things which I can actually move to my SIM card (which I at the same time wish was done automatically) but I'm totally fine with the interface, playing games on it, etc. I would just kind of like that SIM card thing figured out, faster network, more reliable network for Iowa City (beyond just the building issue), and a little better processor. This is all with an HTC Desire which I think was one of the cheaper smart phones when I was looking around last spring. I would go with the HTC Rezound like the guy in Perks link mentioned.

My roommate who bought the new iPhone 4 a few months ago actually has told me that it's awesome how I actually have a flashlight app, which I agree is a surprisingly useful tool to have on phone (which came standard with my phone as well). Do a lot of other phones not have one?

Did you get the 4 or the 4s? With my upgrade, the 4s is $200 and the 4 is $100. I've been reading about the differences and I'm not sure the 4s is worth the $100. Besides having a faster processor, which would be great, I don't care about the 8 extra gigs, the better camera, and Siri.

Siri is a b**ch. My buddy asked it where the closet liquor store was (a bunch of us were at a hotel somewhere in Illinois) and Siri responded with "I'd rather not say". Frigign' prude.

That said, my wife really likes her iphone 4, but she's never had a smart phone so she really enjoys it, despite the fact its costing us 30 bucks a month for internet....which I already have at my apartment. /cheapskate.

That technology is far too advanced for my phone.

And I've had my phone for over a year, hence it is a dinosaur, seeing as I bought it for under $200 the model may be even older still.

thanks for the reply. that's kind of the answers I am looking for either way, good or bad with both. Not the "i don't like apple" or "i know people that hate them" type of responses.

the internal battery is one of the reasons i went with android to begin with, but I have to charge my phone 2-3 times a day and have been for about 3 months. i couldve get another battery and if that was my only issue, i would do that and just wait out my contract.

doesn't apple have a battery replacement also? i would think the price would balance out perhaps? my sister has had her iphone 4 for about a year and a half and she says battery life hasn't been an issue for her yet

i hated iTunes before i got a windows 7 machine. I don't have any problems with it now.

i think i am going to get an Otterbox for it if i choose the iphone

One thing I do like with my android, is i can update my calendar in my gmail account from my laptop and it automatically syncs to my phone and vice versa. i have no problem with the interface with the android (assuming my screen locking up is a motorola issue)

  • Syncing with email is something I'm a little worried about with an iPhone, too. I've heard it's kind of a pain. I plug in my droid and it automatically saves or deletes any contact and calendar changes in my Outlook.
