Why do people that arent Irish or Catholic.....

  • party on St. Patty's day? What are you celebrating if you arent either? Excuse to get bombed? Typical Americans...

    HawkedUp

  • Probably the same reason people celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Most people have no idea that isn't an actual Mexican holiday, but rather only celebrated by like one state in Mexico.

  • That's like asking why people who ARE Catholic look at non-Catholics during Lent like we are supposed to adhere to the same rules

  • I just enjoy listening to some Irish tunes (and American-Irish), drinking some stout, and having a good time. This year we're going to the Barnstormers first home game.

St. Patrick? You mean the story about a guy that drove snakes out of Ireland vs. a man who actually existed that fought for civil rights?

And nobody claims to be Irish that isn't. They like to party based on what has become the American tradition of celebrating St. Partricks day. Kind of like how people celebrate Christmas by putting up apine tree and drinking eggnog with cheap booze.

One don't lecture me on anything Irish or Catholic ever again! And two yes people who I know are 99% German claim they have some irish in them on march 17th.

Sorry but I went to Catholic school K-12 and have had family died from fighting off the Brits do I'm familiar with the subject matter.

  • If they're >0% Irish they can claim they are part Irish. It doesn't really matter. If anyone thinks that the American traditions of St. Patricks day is anything like what Ireland or Irish culture is like is a moron. Last I knew, wearing green and getting trashed on beer with food coloring isn't what Irish culture is like.

I'm not sure where the rest of your diatribe came from, as I didn't say anything about Irish history (a well known story isn't actual factual history) or the Irish people and their struggles in the Irish War of Independence and after. And the catholic school thing is irrelevant.

I'm sorry if you found offense in any of my post, as that certainly wasn't my intention. Here's some boobs.

#3. Sing Rebel Songs and Hate the English

The dumbest way of claiming Emerald Islishness is singing rebel songs and hating the English. Which is not only stupid, but embarrassing, because we lost every conflict we ever had with those guys. They went on to conquer half the globe, and we started right next to them with a smaller population, fewer resources and inferior technology. We weren't even a victory in their game of global domination, we were the tutorial level.
