  • Hey Brad, is your disc problem in the upper or lower back? Right now I am batteing both. Lower back started with an injury (herniated disc at L- 5) and now has two others discs involved. However, I also have a bruised Spinal cord from a fall that they now say should have probably killed me back in 2003. One of my cervical discs has deteriorated to the point of being non-existant, the one abouve it is partially gone and thus placing me at risk for a wheel chair or possibly even deadville bound. The pain can be blinding. The cervical is the first one they want to address. I will be going into the VA hosp next Friday to have surgery and fuse the vertebra and create protection for the spinal cord. My best wishes go out to you buddy. I've had several injections over the years since I first hurt my lower back. U of Iowa, Steindler clinic and the VA have all said the same, "If you can live with the pain don't have surgery". Good luck my friend. After this coming Thurs night, I am not sure how long I'll be in the hospital and/or stuck in bed so I really don't know how long I'll be out of contact. But as soon as I can, I'll be back on line. Hang in there buddy. My best regards and a prayer or two is heading your way.

Thank you froggy thought and prayers to you as well my friend. I have issues with the L4 and 5, arthritis, herniated disc and degenerative discs in the bottom 3 I think is what they said, I can control the pain with meds but when I am off them it hurts like hell and my right leg is numb. I am trying to drop about 50 pounds and see if ti helps I am down 15 but it gets hard when you can't be too active due to the pain but I am slowly getting there, I have had 2 steroid shots in he last 8 weeks and they basically do nothing, they help for a week or 2 and that is about it.
