  • Been in severe pain all day finally got some pain meds but I am here. Saw the spine specialist today not anything for good news

    They want me to have surgery but the wife is student teaching and has no income so I really cant do it, I am hardly making it as it is. Bad timing to have my back crash all at once.

    oh yeah, i think you were telling me about it.

    i would say to get it done as soon as possible.....my dad had back problems for a while. he worked with a bad back and he gutted it out until he sold his business and retired. he had surgery earlier this summer..about 7 hours...fused three vertabrae, put in a bunch of screws....he was healing up well and then was in the hospital for about 3 weeks with an infection and high fever. now, he has a herniated disc and is looking at more surgery.

    I just wonder how much easier things would've went had he took care of it right away

    i know dude....i am just saying if you can, try to avoid waiting a few years to get it done. by the time my dad finally went in to get his surgery, he could hardly walk.

  • Seems like most people that have had it say to not have back surgery unless it's absolutely necessary. Most seem to regret it. Not that you shouldn't listen to doctors, just seems that's what a lot of folk say.

    i know my dad wanted it done earlier....but many of the doctors told him to lose some weight first....problem is he was having a hard time moving around. he went to a doctor in cedar rapids...wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole and referred him to a guy in waterloo. the guy that did his surgery was not happy with the dude in cedar rapids, because when he sent up the referral, there was no mention of how bad it was so they didn't really hear from the people he was referred to until he called and told them how bad it was and also because the guy in cedar rapids never takes any high risk cases and just refers them all to him.

    my dad said the surgeon who did his back, that his attitude was a lot different then anybody else he talked to...it was all really positive that he was gonna be back up and on his feet and getting back to normal as soon as possible...and he was healing up good, and was moving around quite well the few weeks afterwords until he got sidetracked with the infection.

    hope you at least get some relief from the pain or find treatment that can help you be normal without surgery (or until you can do the surgery if you happen to do it).

    and sorry if i sound like a broken record...i just know how much of a toll it took on my dad.

    I have treated lots of back surgeries and injuries. You will never be 100% after surgery but 90% is still better than most people before surgery. If that makes sense.

    I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.
