Edit: Some unsolicited advice...one of the smartest guys I knew, told me that the best time to start planning for your retirement is right now. I was slightly younger than you when I heard that but it was sound advice then and is still true today.

It would be nice to start saving for retirement if you had a dime to save! I have for as long as I can remember, always saved my money. I don't spend it on stupid crap. I hate shopping, and have no need for a bunch of "stuff". Yet, all I want is to be able to live in my own place and save for my retirement. *heavy sigh*

It will get better. Young couples rarely have much to save and student loans are a bitch to pay off. The big thing is to get out of debt first. I would focus fully on that and pay that debt down as quickly as possible. I'm no financial guru, and I have been through plenty of hard times, but getting out of debt is key, and that will free up your income to start putting a little aside for retirement.
