What's the history of VOTH?

  • How long has it been around? It appears this site use to be connected to the rivals network (Looking through the FAQ)? What about the site editors, what's their story?

Just trying to get some background on this place as I'm fairly new here.

  • Brommy would know this the best. I think VOTH has been around for years in print form. This site has been around 23 months. Brommy as you may know use to work for Rivals. There was some kind of buyout or something involving I think Yahoo. Anyways that's sort of how he came over here and started this site. Like I said he could tell you better.

It started out with just one board here. Worly came I believe a couple months after Brommy. I'm not sure what brought him here or how he got here. Fish and I demanded for an off topic board so naturally they had to listen to Fish so that's kind of how he got the wonderful job of modding and looking out of us here. Does a great job by the way. That's a rough draft of the history anyways.

I believe there is a letter to subscribers pinned to the top of the main board here. You can check that out, it should have some more information in there. Edit=Wasn't on the board but in a tab here.

This place was nothing until hawkibrad55 came here so it has been around about 15 months give or take

  • There is an old VOTH legend that speaks of two Todds, who came together and attempted to clone a horse. As legend has it, they were unsuccessful in cloning the entire horse as they were only able to recreate the horse's rear end. The horse's rear end was vile and disgusting, but the Todd's loved him as their own none the less. As the horse's rear end got older he begged the Todd's for a venue to express himself, so they granted the horse's rear end's request and VOTHOT was born. Sadly, as more and more posters caught on to the new site, the horse's rear end was relentlessly picked on and belittled for the bufoon that they all knew him to be. So to protect their freakish love child of science they gave him mod powers and named him Fish.
And now you know, the rest of the story.

  • Voice of the Hawkeyes was started locally as a print publication in the pre-internet days of the early 1980s. Those local owners eventually sold the property to a company in Dallas which in turn sold it to Landmark Communications based out of Norfolk, Virginia. You may remember Landmark as having sold the Weather Channel to NBC for a gazillion dollars a few years back.

The magazine is in its 29th year of publication. This year's production schedule calls for 12 glossy print editions as well as several online-only "Express" editions (an effort to maintain print model in the internet age)

I came on board at Landmark Community Newspapers (a subsidiary branch of Landmark Comm) in August 2003. At the time all of LCNI's sports properties (Landmark Sports Group consists of publications covering Iowa, Nebraska, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, North Carolina and Indiana) had a business partnership with Rivals.com. The agreement was not renewed by Rivals.com when it last expired two years ago and Landmark Sports Group joined forces with 247Sports. The site launched at midnight on April 1, 2011 which led to a little confusion from some thinking it was an April Fools joke.

Todd Worly joined the fold to cover recruiting a few weeks later. He's an employee of 247Sports, not Landmark.

    TL;DR right?

Just trying to get some background on this place as I'm fairly new here.

    Genesis: 1

In the beginning the whole Hawkeye news coverage was black. Nothing zip zada. So the Iowa God made the Internet with Al Gore to help have a platform to get Iowa news coverage to the masses.

Everything was golden, the people were blessed with news coverage and Todd B was appointed the prophet. Todd had visions and would share the visions to the masses. This era was referred to as the golden times.

But Todd B wanted more. The Internet wasn't good enough for him and he was almost non existent to the Iowa Gods posters. Nope Todd B wanted radio & paper print, this made the Iowa God angry.

As time went on Todd B pist off the Iowa god enough that he started to injury runningbacks.

The Angry Iowa running back God so hatefull that he banished Todd B from rivals heaven & locked the gate.

Todd B started his own site Iowa247to spite the now Angry Iowa Running Back Hate God. This pist him off even more so God blessed Iowans with Greg Davis and created the Hipster trend to punish all of us.

Welcome to the dark ages. Thank you Todd, not! I censoreding hate hipsters

The truth is that Worly was bagging groceries at the Stop and Rob with Eric Crouch. The owner of 247 happened in to buy some prophylactics one night and realized that there was a former athlete working. Knowing that he had a slot to fill he went with the most qualified candidate and the rest as they say is history.

Man, not to hijack this thread, but it brought back memories of Eric Crouch and Tommie Frazier. I'm in not way a Nebraska fan, but damn, those guys could play ball.

Yes but the whole joke was that Eric Crouch had no professional career to speak of. He came out as a Heisman winner, but promptly retired when Green Bay wanted to convert him to a receiver. Hence the bagging groceries joke. Dang I hate having to explain a joke! Damn kids! grumble
