Two hours at a dance recital this weekend

  • Yeah so in another post I mentioned I was back in the sioux city area this weekend. Well I was lucky to get to take in a nieces dance recital. If you have never attended, you are missing out on seeing some of the most retarded mothering ever. Over the course of people watching for two hours many thoughts and observations went through my head. Feel free to give me feedback the question or two I have

How does a parent decided their boy should be in dance? What tendencies is he showing at age five that a husband agrees that his boy needs tap shoes instead of a mitt? There was pry four boys in the show out of two hundred kids. I can weak dads doing this in bigger cities, but I was in small town Iowa where half the dads must have thought their theatre chair was a tree stand so they dressed accordingly.

The kid in front of me is a terrible Mario kart player. As soon as the show started he pulls out a tablet and starts playing. I watch for a second by tried so hard to watch the show. After the 5th act to use a Katy perry song I was more interested in my gaming buddy. His top finish was 5th place due to him not understanding how to use shells properly.

The mothers: holy crap I dont have all day to rant on this. The whole place was filled to the brim with toddlers in tiaras moms. I have to assume the majority of these moms did not get outraged at the news story of the five year old in a tanning bed story. At the end of the show I overheard a mom discussing how she was going to have to have a sitdown talk with the instructors as she was not pleased at where her daughter stood on stage during her groups act.

Well thanks for listening. End of rant/

  • I'd guess that there arnen't many dads who actually want their son to dance. They're probably just trying to be supportive and not make their wife hate them. The days of throwin your boy across the room for being a nancy are over.

When you gonna have some critters, rhino?

  • Right now we are preferring to practice instead of getting in the game. We are talking about it right now. The problem is that all of her friends and sister are having kids, so she is on this kids trip right now. I would guess in the next two years my future hall of famer should be born

I'd rather have my wife hate me than my son tap dancing. Wives are replaceable.

  • i don't have any kids yet but if i did have a boy, i wouldn't be thrilled about him wanting to be in dance or tap or whatever. but i wouldn't stop him from doing what he wanted either. i'm not about to be that dad that forces my kid to do something he doesn't want to do. i think that only sets him up for failure/ issues down the road.

but i plan at a very early age to do activities with him/her like rollerblading, shooting hoops, and tossin the baseball/football/frisbie around. hopefully that leads to them being interested in those things

My wife thought she really wanted a kid right now. Then recently her period showed up about 2 weeks late. In that 2 weeks she realized how it would be a horrible time for us to have kids right now. So I'm hoping I don't have to hear about kids for at least 6 months.Preferably more, but I'm realistic.
