Pop all the way. Usually only southern people call it soda, my cousins who have lived in Texas most of their lives are a little more northern in the sense that they don't have an accent and they think it's wierd that all their friends just say "Coke," but I think they do say soda.

I want to know how "coke" even became generally accepted as the term for pop in the south. Were people too lazy to learn the names of the pop? Why would anyone call a clear lemon-lime pop "coke". It makes no sense.

I was in Florida and asked for a coke to drink and was asked what kind. I was very confused because young and didnt understand the whole concept of having different words for same thing. doesn't help that floridians have one heck of an accent to understand.
