Remember that time when.....

  • I said i hated my current job and needed a new one???

I have a job interview on Friday!!!!!!! panic

This is what i need from my fellow VotHOTers:

    1. Please pray (if your into that stuff)
    2. Words of encouragement (I'm nervous as all hell)
    3. Advise? (havent had a job interview since June of 2010... what's changed)

    Wish me luck!

Not as great of a job as I want, buts its in my field and I know I will enjoy going to work everyday.

  • I'll tell you what I told my little bro who has been interviewing since graduating.

I don't interview for jobs often so I'm not sure how good my advice is. Been at this job for about 5 years and was at the last place for 7. Did plenty of interviews before then though.

Be confident, but not cocky or arrogant. I go in there knowing I'm going to be offered the job. I also treat the interview as an opportunity for me to interview my potential employer. I let 'em know I'm looking for the right fit for me because I don't like jumping from job to job.

Just be honest and try to stay calm. If you're feeling a little nervous and you think your interviewer is noticing just tell them you're nervous and why.

You're going to be fine. Best of luck. Keep us posted.

welp...no sense in trying to out do this.

So I'll just say this-drink your morning coffee, then change into your suit. This avoids coffee stains.

Also make sure to squeeze their hand really hard. Then piss on their desk. This will mark your territory and let them know you're the alpha male.

  • Good luck, dk. Nothing much to add except for what bleed said. Be confident but not cocky and ask some questions of your own.

Depending on what kind of position and how big the company is, you might want to prepare for some of the really dumb, generic questions they ask you. You can google those. Strengths/weaknesses, name a time you had to go above and beyond at your job, etc. Stupid questions like that.

You'll kill it. A lot of times the person giving the interview will be just as nervous as you if they haven't been doing it for years.

Good luck bro. Firm hand shake and like Bleed said show confidence, sit up tall and be yourself.
I have been at my job 16 years so I have not been interviewed in a long time but I have interviewed people and people that slouch, avoid eye contact and have evident lack of self worth make me look at them for about 30 seconds and move on to the next person. ( In my head you still have to finish the interview) Thoughts with ya my fellow Hawkeye wrestling freak. thumbsup

I take this as saying you already had the interview. Either way, suit up.

My rule of thumb is to dress one step above the position you're interviewing for until you get to the suit.

My line of work I wear jeans and a polo. So, the last two interviews I've done have been sans jacket. Just shirt/tie and dress pant. I don't care if I'm interviewing for a fryer spot at McDonalds, I'm showing up in at least slacks and a polo.

It's always drove me nuts to see how some people show up for interviews. Folks looking like they just rolled out the sack. I mean they cover this stuff early on in high school and it amazes me how some people go into these things.
