None of those are the greatest ever. Well maybe Tony Gonzalez but Tight End isn't really that important of a position. It's harder for a dominating TE to impact the game as much compared to a WR, RB, or QB. Maybe Butkus but Ray Lewis won his a team a Super Bowl and possibly another so he would get the edge there.

  • Your denial of Barry Sanders not being the goat is laughable, and yes that whole list is some of the greatest ever, more shit players have won super bowls, than some of the best ever.

He is a quitter and never won. He had players around him. Nobody ever says anything but whatever. I never hear any good arguments when I bring it up. Barry was more flashy. Emmitt did it all and dominated in the clutch. He played hurt. I get the flashy rb will get all the attention. But Emmitt was just a winner pure and simple. That's what the GOAT are. Barry has the most negative rushing yards ever. That isn't contributing to your team. It hurts them setting up 2nd and 3rd and long. You are gambling on getting a long run.

Did he have an Aikman NO, did he have Irving and moose NO did he have a whole line that was stellar No, he had the most negative rushes because all they had to do was try and stop him. 1 good lineman means shit he quit because they wouldn't build a team around him your argument is weak and has little facts, I promise u if u put Emmitt on the lions they still wouldn't have won a Super Bowl and he never would have broke the rushing record.

Barry had a couple of probowl offensive lineman. Fact is you can't try and put Emmitt on the Lions and say that. They ran completely different systems. Lions ran 1 rb 2 te. That doesn't fit Emmitt's style but it does Barry. And Barry wouldn't fit well in the system Dallas ran. He liked to run outside. Lions had Herman Moore as well. This whole talent thing is crap. Barry didn't have the heart Emmitt did. Emmitt put in the years. Emmitt wanted it more, it's as simple as that. Putting in that much time at RB in the NFL is damn impressive. And he played at an extremely high level through most of it. If you want to go for a rb with a short career you could at least say Earl Campbell.

  • Compare the number of hall of fame players on each team, during that span, enough said. Its your opinion and I respect it but as I said your Barry had talent around him argument is as weak as it gets. And i dont blame him for retiring early, because they never built the team around him and why kill yourself if they aren't going to. Anyway I am done with this topic and am going to bed

  • Thanks Brad.

Maury it's an opinion and you can't be wrong.

Some people think Peyton Manning is the greatest QB of all time. I say Jim Kelly should be considered one of the greatest of all time due to the fact he ripped it up in the USFL, than came to the NFL & help led a team to 4 straight Super Bowls. Disagree? That's ok, I don't care. But if your talking to me about the GOAT at the WR position I'm mentioning Moss. If your arguement is he doesn't have a Super Bowl ring, than Trent Dilfer is listed as a possible candidate for GOAT just cause he got a ring? Dumb

It's not only he had talent. That's not my entire argument and you know it. He is Michael Vick of Rbs. All sizzle and no steak. If he saw he had no talent around him why did he resign with them for so long? It was pretty stupid of Barry to sign for so long then complain nobody is around you. Why did you sign then?

  • Moss should have been the greatest of all time. He was too big of a wuss to get there. He only worked when it was beneficial to him. I'm not going to complain, though. I've always disliked Moss.

  • Here is a great article on it, I am not taking anything away from Smith at all he is for sure top 3 but, basic consensus, If you are a Cowboy fan Smith was the best, If you are a fan of ANY other team Barry was the best.

    Still they are only opinions.

Best Running Back of All-Time: Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, or Emmitt Smith?

Emmitt Smith was a great running back, but the greatest running back of all time? He wasn’t even the greatest running back of his generation. And even the father of the man who was claims that someone else was the greatest ever.

I agree that Smith was not the greatest running back of all time. But the fact that the article does not even mention Walter Payton, who is the greatest running back of all time, kills any credibility it claims to have.

Ya I just liked it for its comparison of Barry and Emmitt. You HAVE to include Payton in any discussion of the GOAT

Everyone says that. But Emmitt sat out the first few games of a Super Bowl winning season for a contract. Guess how many games the won without him? Zero. It's not like you can just throw anybody back there. Emmitt was a big part of that team. And they happened to win 3 Super Bowls. Regardless of how much talent people think was on those teams. That is damn impressive. And again he preformed when it mattered the most.

Pretty funny most of that article is talking about stats. This isn't baseball. Nobody cares about stats. They care about Emmitt playing with a dislocated shoulder in the playoffs vs the Giants and getting over 160 yards. That's what people remember about football. Players putting it all out on the field. Emmitt did that for a long damn time.

I am not discounting his heart at all Maury, Barry Sanders is a better running back is what I said, I didn't say he had more heart, and how can you consider ANYONE the greatest without stats, that is foolish. And I do agree you can't plug just anyone in on that Dallas team and they would have done he did. Emmitt was awesome not saying he wasnt.

And the only people that don't care about the stats are Dallas fans because they dont have much of an argument with them.

You really need to look at the negative rushing yards more. You can't put that on all Barry's teammates. He danced around back there trying to break the big one. That's what he did. I assume you watched him back in the day so you know what I'm talking about. It's like with Romo. He is running around 15 yards behind the line and you are like WTF?! you doing? Then he does something great and you are like man that was awesome. But then there are times he does that and goes for a 5 yard loss, or a 7 yard loss. I know you will still say Barry but I just can't give that title to Barry. Goats should have Super Bowls IMO. Especially at spots like Rb, qb, Wr, Mlb.

I made plenty of points you gave me nothing to change my mind or anything that was a good argument wtf do you want???? I am not going to waste my time with a total Cowboy homer that can't see past his nose when it comes to other players in football. I tried to end it nicely but I guess you dont want that.
