  • What kind of music did you first like and where did you go from there?

    When I was young I had the coolest sister ever who got me into all that great 60's music. That's how I first got into music. Dylan, Doors, Janis, Jimi, all that stuff was just unbelievable. The Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd. Stones. Then I got more into heavy metal/90's alternative/Industrial. Then I had a family and started listening to pop music more. Then I started listening to some more electronic stuff like Glitch Mob and Skrillex. I really want to get back to finding good music but I think early on the bar was set too high. How do you go from Dylan and The Doors to music of today? Maybe I'm just being ignorant. I'm sure there is good music out there. But I have hit a wall. Help me!

    I like most of those you mentioned but what got me started to like pop music was the folk stuff. For example.these folks. Love this tune. In this case Judy Collins, Steve Stills, with an awkward intro by Graham Nash. Yikes.

  • I was raised on country music until my mother bought me the album "Meet the Beatles." My epiphany was hearing John scream during a song - it made me a rock guy. From there, I got harder and harder from Alice Cooper and Deep Purple and on into the metal days plus punk. As I got older, I gained a real love for the blues that took me to soul, Motown, back to old country and so forth. Today, I am into just about anything except rap, modern "country" (basically, bad pop songs processed through Nashville) and meaningless pop crap.

  • Also had a cool sister and brother get me into Music when I was very young, Sister would have me listen to the radio and have me name the band and song by the first 10 seconds of the song, started out with most all 80's rock, and then my brother got me hooked on AC/DC, Led Z, The Who etc. I myself then got into the Alternative movement, then Pantera and other very heavy metal, jumped around many styles in High School, from Buddy Holly to 2 Pac. Out of high school until now I still listen to the same music, there was some good bands in the 2000s but there are very few I like now and just prefer the music I have always enjoyed.

  • i listened to many things in high school...was into the warrants, motley crue, poison, and the hair bands...moved on to the grunge - alice in chains, nirvana etc..and also bands like pantera. i also listened to rap, public enemy, nwa, snoop, etc.

    now, i listen to some metal, but it mostly is punk music and a lot of relatively unknown bands that i have seen open for a few other punk bands such as the arrivals, toys that kill, banner pilot, tiltwheel (to name a few) as well as a lot of the grunge type music i listened to in the 90's

    There isn't. I burned crazy music in the napster days and listened to all kinds of stuff for free. I know there are torrents and that youtube ripping program. But nothing is really motivating me to go out and find new music.

  • I came from a conservative family - so I was force fed Michael W Smith, Amy Grant, Rich Mullins...etc. In middle school it was all Rock 108 all the time and through most of high school with some rap sprinkled in there.

    College was a fresh of breath air musically and we had a program that let you download other peoples music from their iTunes if they turn sharing on in iTunes on our intranet. So I was able to be exposed to basically everyone else's music libraries and discovered tons of classics, jam bands, alt, hip hop, r&b, punk, folk...I was like a sponge. I loved it. I can only focus on studying, reading...etc if I have my headphones on.

    Now I have Spotify and listen to techno, classic rock, alt rock, folk, r&b, and rap.
