we are going to start giving her some glucosamine for her joints to help with the arthritis.

she is still a happy dog...she just has a hard time seeing in the dark, or when she comes in from the outside and you can tell it is getting harder for her to get around, especially going up and down the stairs.

Did the vet recommend that? I started giving it to my dog because he has arthritis too and it's seemed to help. I just started doing it because someone told me it helped their dog, not a vet.

i wasn't at the vet, but i assume so. i know they have recommended it in the past also. i guess there is a medication they can give her for pain, and they have to do blood tests before and then a few weeks after to make sure it isn't affecting her liver and stuff.

  • Non-shedding dogs are ok. No cats inside. I have allergies so most dogs don't do well with most of them when inside. But we have a little silky terrier who is hypo-allergenic, so its all good.

  • I would definitely classify myself as an animal lover (though not quite the extent of being a vegeterian). My wife and I own two cats...they are pretty awesome and both have fun personalities. But like I said, I love dogs too. My brother-in-law has two Rottweilers that are the biggest babies. Awesome dogs but man, they have some crazy expensive medical bills.

flex thrown in for good measure.

  • In regard to letting them outside - we just don't it without them being supervised. I know it might sound overbearing, but I've had too many friends that have had pets hit by cars or getting hurt in other ways outside.

Rots have bad hips and I feel so bad for them they are great dogs. And to be honest as far as pets go I have cried when my father died and my Grandma bu not much anyone else. But for every pet I have lost I cried little a little bitch and I mean school girl scraping her knee cry.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

Their hips and also they are vulnerable to some sort of stomach condition, too. I believe that's where the majority of their medical bills stem from.

I also hear ya about losing pets. It's tough. Really tough.

  • Well - several years ago the dogs we had on the farm as i grew up stayed outside almost exclusively. 1 Collie, 1 German Shepherd, 3 Shelties (my mom's favorite). They helped out with the pigs and cattle - so they were always stepping in manure. The dogs stayed in the garage for the most part, or the dog house, or the barns in the winter. I could not imagine them being in the house and jumping all over the furniture. They were work dogs. I know this is a different situation than having a non-work dog or living in town. I don't think that it was cruel - FWIW.

Now - the family dog is a CKC Spaniel, rarely outside and sleeps 20 hours a day. My nightly greeting has reduced to the dog laying on her side with a half-assed tail wag.

  • I love both dogs and cats and have both. I not only don't have issues with them in the house but I let them sleep with me. Now as for the g/f...I keep her outside until her services are needed. lol
