Pets in the house

  • What do you think about having pets in the house? The first 20 years of my life I had a dog that lived in the house with me, I haven't had one the last 4 years as I just don't have time for one right now, but my old lady has a cat, and I like it. I love cats and dogs, and have no problem with them in the house, but sometimes I think about it and think it's pretty f'n weird that we allow animals to live in our homes with us.

  • Love animals no issue with it at all

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

  • I'm ok with it. Cats that sit on the table and walk on counters kind of gross me out. That and having a litter box but I love kitty's and would have one if it wasn't for the counter/table walking.

  • I feel if you get a pet and leave it outside, then you should not have a pet. Most people that do that, never pay attention to the pets. Really annoys me

I agree completely. People who get a dog and then leave it in a cage 24/7 are scum. I love having a pet in the house, but once in awhile I just think it's kind of weird how people started allowing pets to live with them.

  • i have two dogs a german shepherd and a lab mix, and we have dog hair all over...we will probably end up replacing most of the carpet just because of all the hair.

as much as I love em, i probably will never want two dogs (at least of that size) at the same time.

i am allergic to cats, so they are nothing more than vermin to me.

I understand what you are saying, it is weird to think that some where along the line dogs were domesticated, and instead of using them for what they bred for, they became companions for people

  • When moved in w/my gf, she already had a cockapoo female that hated men. She barked snarled, flinched, ran and howled for about two weeks and then we became friends. After a year, she is more my dog that my gf's. She just came into my man pit to give me some attention and get some in return. Love having her around. Never been much of a cat person but they like me too.

  • That's some old country stuff, leaving them outside. My grandmother who lives on a farm in Iowa does it. I think it's cruel when it gets so damn hot and cold.

I know a guy who grew up on a farm in Indiana and was really against any pet in the house. Kind of the hardass, stubborn type. Somehow his wife talked him into getting a lab as an indoor pet. Within a week, that dog was allowed on every piece of furniture and in every vehicle they had and the guy would rarely leave the house without having that dog with him.

When I am of age to own a house and pay for it, if ever, I will always have my dogs inside. They can go out to pee and play and walk, or whatever, but they live inside. I live inside, so my friends should too.

I agree with you. My dog has a great life. I leave my freaking TV on Animal Planet all day so he can lay on the couch and watch it. He really likes the shows with wolves.

I get pissed off walking around my neighborhood when it's 105 and hearing dogs in backyards that I know are out there 24/7.

Yeah I totally agree. We used to have our dog out a lot back in the day. Our first lab, and so we were new to owning pets. As she got older, we left her inside more and then when she passed, was probably one of the saddest days of my life. Mainly because I felt that I could have done so much more to appreciate her for what she brought to my life and made her more happy. The look she gave me the last time I saw her is rough. It was a "thanks for such a good time, I'll miss you" look.

I came home Friday night last year (knowing full well that this lab had maybe a week left) and expected to see my dog stand up from the floor she was probably laying on all day because she couldn't stand, just to welcome me home. Only to find out Saturday night that my family had put her down.

With our new dogs we got I promised myself to spend enough time everyday to make sure they know I appreciate them more than anything. I wish I would have done that earlier with out lab because I missed out on so many good times. Now that I'm in college, I don't get to see the dogs much anymore, which makes me sad, but I love to get home with bags of stuff and have them jump on me. Its refreshing to know that how ever often I leave them, when I come back they will love me just as much as they did before.

I guess that's why I hate seeing dogs neglected so much. If you can't find it in yourself to care for a life that loves you more than anything in the world, then don't own a dog. Its simple. Your dog loves you just like you love yourself. Its fair to love the dog too.

  • BTW the little shih tzu's we have live a great life. The lab lived a good life too. I just wish I would have cared more when I was younger like I did when I got older into high school.

Gotdam right. You can have a terrible day, come home, and that dog is just there to remind you of how simple and good life should be by wagging their tail and just wanting to be around you, no matter what.

Yeah, that's why I love them. There isn't another animal that will do that for you. At least for me. If I could have a dog in my apartment, I would. I would give up spending money on anything that I don't need (like alcohol) just to have a dog around. I love them.

Probably. Those 2 will literally jump up to like my face when I get home to see them. They are the best friends I could ask for.

I remember this day in the summer when our home security alarm was going off for no reason, and they got scared by the noise thinking someone was breaking in or something. Well since nobody was home the dogs figured a way to get the door to the basement open and run down stairs. The guy dog (branson) runs straight down to my room and jumps up into my bed with me. Of course I told him being down there was against the rules b/c he goes to the bathroom down there. He refused to leave my side. He was so scared that he cuddled up behind me hoping I'd protect him.

    I know, csb

I think it's funny, I have a little dog, and he's not really scared of anything, in a lot of situations he thinks he is protecting me

Mine do that too. Its hilarious to see a little tiny dog standing in front of a 6'3 guy looking at someone like "take one more step, I swear I'll fuh you up!"

  • my wife took our 12 year old shepherd into the vets yesterday.....i guess she has lost about 10 pounds in the last couple years. her eyesight sucks, and she has arthritis in her hips and she can't get up and down stairs too well.

my 4 year old was telling me today that she went to the doctor, and that she has medicine because she is sick and will go to heaven soon......but that's alright, we will get another dog. (his words).

i do feel bad because we put the dogs in their kennels when we are not home and their kennels are downstairs...it sucks to see her hobbling up the stairs. i wish we had room for a huge kennel on our main floor, but maybe her going up and down the stairs helps her keep loose so they don't stiffen more shrug

That sucks watching dogs get old. Hope she sticks around for a while and the doc can keep her out of pain.

Absolutely! I think how somebody treats animals is character-definer.

We have three dogs (Lab, 2 Shih Tzus) and a cat in our house. I would rather have my dogs in the house than a LOT of people I know.

we are going to start giving her some glucosamine for her joints to help with the arthritis.

she is still a happy dog...she just has a hard time seeing in the dark, or when she comes in from the outside and you can tell it is getting harder for her to get around, especially going up and down the stairs.

and even with all that, it still brings a smile to my face when she gets in the backyard and starts chasing the other dog or a squirrel and gets some good speed going
