  • The thing I don't quite understand is that the AD is making it sound like he's upset that Petrino didn't tell him that that girl was with him at the time of the accident. IMO, whether Petrino told him that or not is irrelevant. The fact that that relationship was/is going on at all is the real issue, and if Petrino had disclosed that she was on the scene of the accident, I don't see how that would have been any better in the AD's eyes.

I think I'm missing some serious details of the story, I guess I'll have to go find it on ESPN or something.

On a certain level, I completely agree with you. But being a university, and Petrino being the head coach, he really ends up representing the university in a lot of peoples' eyes. So I can see why it would matter in this particular situation, especially when the girl is an employee of the football program.

I'm just different and don't hold public figures to a higher standard. People are people and expecting people with power to behave better than the average person is counterintuitive. People in power have more opportunities to do things like this and it is probably time that people stop being surprised about it. A significant portion your neighbors down the street would cheat on their wife with a 25 year old hot volleyball player if given the opportunity. They just don't.

I think we're close to on the same page here, but I do see why the university has to step in. A university is a business, and when the face of that business does something like this, they risk an enormous backlash both financially and in the court of public opinion if they don't do anything.

I personally agree with you to a point. I have to work with the public and travel some, I had to sign a moral clause or whatever they call it now. Saying that even when I am "off the clock" I am still representing that company and will still be held to a high standard. However I will never hire a young, hot girl to work for me. I could see her falling off the handle bars of my bike and something like this happening to me. Then I would have even more time to post and you guys would start asking me to leave here!

i agree with you for the most part. the one thing is he is a coach for a university. he's supposed to not only coach football, but develop boys into young men. now i realize college football is a business and no one really gives a sh*t about that, but the university has to at least pretend like they care about it.

I think universities lost the moral high ground a long time ago. Coaches can leave whenever they want and take jobs for more money. Students have to sit out a year when they transfer and sometimes coaches don't even release them from their scholarships. They can pretend to care about it but it is a sham.

As a Nebraska alum I'm forced to watch Ron Brown denigrate LGBTQ people in Omaha while the university talks about how well he shapes his players into men. If we quit pretending that coaches were superior to normal people we could quit having these hypocritical outrages.
