Painting, who's in?

  • My wife decided this past weekend we are painting a 27'x16' Great Room with cathedral ceilings and our 12'x20 ' Kitchen dining area. Tonight I moved everything to the center of the Great Room to start there. Masked off all the base board and tarped the floor. Done at 7:30, need to shower and have dinner.

    My questions is, does anyone on VOTH like doing this? Is it just me that I dread painting! My wife doesn't mind it as long as I am helping. I am not sure what it cost to have someone come in and paint, but I am not sure if it wouldn't be worth it. Has yhad someone they paid to paint for them? Do you have an estimate on the cost for this size of rooms? Two different colors, one Great Room and one shared wall in Dining area in a light shade of Green and coffee (tanish) color in the Kitchen and one wall of dining area.

  • I like painting but I hate taping everything. We need to paint the outside of our house this spring I'm actually going to try to get by just watching him do it this time. I will do the low stuff but I don't like ladders that high.

    No JW, why would you think that? Do you know anything about me? Is someone going to wonder why lurkers don't post on here again, seems obvious? Do you think a 2-10 x10 bedrooms 1-12 x 12 bedroom 400 Sq ft Great Room and kitchen dining area for a total of 1,300 Sq foot including 2 baths and a laundry room and it's bragging for a family of 5?

    Misty~ I just dread the painting. I like doing little "projects" like electrical wiring, laying tile, dry walling things like that, it's just the primping and painting and clean up, the whole thing just makes me cringe. I would like to make it more "fun" like the other 'projects" but I don't, wish I could.\\

    I too flat out hate painting ihawks. My wife always tries to spring it on me this time of year too. I have to put my foot down, like that goes anywhere, and say, why would you want to do this at a time of year when we can't open the windows and doors and get some fresh air?

    Sometimes that works.

    Lighten up, It's all in good fun.

    And if I never have to paint anything again in my life, it will be too soon. Horrible, awful activity.

Probably as misty has said, I'm the one doing the masking and throws and it is not fun. Then the cleaning and picking up doesn't excite me either.

  • Get 3 or 4 of your buddies, and tell them you're having a painting party. You supply the beer and food and they help you out. It will go faster, you'll have some fun, and it would be cheaper than hiring it done.
