No Shave November

  • hawkirob said...

so, as alluded to earlier, I have an interview tomorrow...so I shaved it down.

here is the kicker.....the position she originally called me about is being rethought or something, and they want to interview me for another position...which is fine...i am going to go through the motions, but for me to leave my current position (as much as I do not enjoy my current position), one of two things has to happen....

    1) i would like a first shift position (preferably a monday through friday....but would do rotating weekends if i know I have some weekends off.

    2) need to make as much money as i do currently --- a lot of positions that i would be "qualified" for would fail to meet that requirement.

i had a neighbor work there, so I know that the first criteria will be a little more tricky.

perhaps I am limiting my opportunities, but i refuse to sell out my personal time especially if i am in a position that enforces "mandatory OT", especially if the position starts at less than what i am making to begin with. i have had positions before where I have done that, and i could not really plan anything on my days off because chances are that we would be forced in the day before...i definitely do not want to be in that situation again.

considering i am already employed, I can choose to be a little more picky. considering some questions that i have been asked during the interview process, when it's time for them to ask if i have any questions, I wonder what it would be like to turn some of their questions around on them. for example, would it be out of line if i asked something like this

"as someone who is currently employed, what would you say are reasons that I would leave where I am to work for Company X"

it might seem smug and they probably have more than enough people desperate for a job to be put off by the question, but i have been raked over the coals in interviews before and if they are considering me, shouldn't they be able to convince me why i would leave where i am to work for them.

I have straight out told potential employers that I'm there to interview them just as much as they are there to interview me. I let them know that I am employed, but that I feel I'm not being fair to myself by not exploring potential options. I'm looking to better myself. Plain and simple

I let them know what's important to me and what I'm looking for as well. Nothing at all wrong with being upfront and honest in that regard.

The approach has always been met with complete understanding.

On a related note; I realized today why I thought you started the thread about the movie 50/50. It was because you started a thread about a movie with gorillas in the jungle or something around that same time and you thought it was sad.

    Amiright?

I don't think so. I am really digging it. I might shave it down to a sweet stache in a few weeks. But for now, this baby is staying

Yup. I won't be shaving most likely until March. And then I'll still keep my goatee.

  • Sorry for the late update. Kid had the flu, then the wife and I had the flu, then I was out of town...

My wife has been enjoying the beard, but did recently ask that I trim it down a bit. I think I'll keep it up to Christmas; maybe through Christmas.

The will is not here, the will is at my office next to the hot plate with the frayed wires.

  • I did a lot of contemplating today, I didn't know what to do....once I took the beard trimmer to the side of my face, there was no turning back. I don't know if I made the right decision confused

I kept my goatee, and sideburns of course. I always have sideburns, but everything else is usually clean shaven. I did post a pic like last Thursday or something
