No Shave November

It may get shaved again. One of the places I dropped my resume off at the career fair left me a message wanting to schedule an interview for a team lead position.

    Good luck, homie.

Thanks all.... It will be a second shift, and I am sure weekends will be part of the deal.....which means I would hardly ever see the missus...and when little man gets into kindergarten next year, I will not see him a whole lot. But I won't count the chickens before they are hatched and will go through the motions until that decision is made.

One of the few things I have going for me now is a monday-friday schedule, no holidays. With things in perspective, Misty's husband and a friend of mine are coming close to the end of their jobs...so it could be worse

Amen to that brother! My thoughts and prayers go out to every one of the 18,500 families that are going to suffer from this. That is a whole lotta heart ache there.

Well, as someone who was without work for 10 months about 2-1/2 years ago, I have been messaging tidbits of information to my freind that hopefully might be able to help him out

I know. It's gut wrenching to be out of work. I am blessed that my employer has put up with me for 22 years. Prior to that I had been laid off twice and fired once from 3 other jobs.

  • I normally shave every day or two, and I just realized today how great it has been to not do that for the past three weeks

Yeah, today is three weeks exactly, and I believe this has got to be the longest I have ever went, mostly because usually it drives me crazy and I get rid of it after a week or two

Thanks. The goatee was already there, so I really can't count that. But if I could just grow hair on top of my damn head like I can everywhere else I would be happy. lol

Hair on the head is overrated. I embraced my bald ass head, started taking the trimmers to it and shave it down. Haven't paid for a haircut in years. It's also nice to not have to worry about it being in place or styling it.

Oh I was forced to embrace it years ago. I started going bald in my mid 30's and for the last 7 years or so I haven't paid for a haircut either. I shave it down during the summer, but let it grow out a little (such as it is) in the winter. I used to have nice hair though. I was fairly handsome as a kid. Not so much now.

My family is cursed with the worst hair. My brother has been bald since he was like 19. It's supposed to come from your moms side but I really hope my son has my husbands families hair. My family goes gray early too.

  • so, as alluded to earlier, I have an interview tomorrow...so I shaved it down.

here is the kicker.....the position she originally called me about is being rethought or something, and they want to interview me for another position...which is fine...i am going to go through the motions, but for me to leave my current position (as much as I do not enjoy my current position), one of two things has to happen....

    1) i would like a first shift position (preferably a monday through friday....but would do rotating weekends if i know I have some weekends off.

    2) need to make as much money as i do currently --- a lot of positions that i would be "qualified" for would fail to meet that requirement.

i had a neighbor work there, so I know that the first criteria will be a little more tricky.

perhaps I am limiting my opportunities, but i refuse to sell out my personal time especially if i am in a position that enforces "mandatory OT", especially if the position starts at less than what i am making to begin with. i have had positions before where I have done that, and i could not really plan anything on my days off because chances are that we would be forced in the day before...i definitely do not want to be in that situation again.

considering i am already employed, I can choose to be a little more picky. considering some questions that i have been asked during the interview process, when it's time for them to ask if i have any questions, I wonder what it would be like to turn some of their questions around on them. for example, would it be out of line if i asked something like this

"as someone who is currently employed, what would you say are reasons that I would leave where I am to work for Company X"

it might seem smug and they probably have more than enough people desperate for a job to be put off by the question, but i have been raked over the coals in interviews before and if they are considering me, shouldn't they be able to convince me why i would leave where i am to work for them.
