MLB Blackouts suck butt

  • In iowa, 6 teams are blacked out. When Directv does their Extra Inning free preview, they unlock the feed from the EI channels, as well as the feed from the regional fox sports channels that those games are shown on, but the games on the Fox sports regional channels are still blacked out.

if you get the package with all the fox sports regional channels, are the teams that are in your black out area still blacked out? I know the white sox and cubs can be seen on WGN and Comcast Sportsnet, but if I wanted to watch the Brewers and turned on Fox Sports Wisconsin, would I get a black out message? Hoping somebody with Directv and that package would know. heck, even if I wanted to watch the cardinals, or twins or something it is typically not happening unless they are playing the cubbies or white sox on WGN or comcast sports.

  • I have DirecTV and get the "Sports Package". I can watch all the Cards, Cubs, White Sox, Brewers, Royals, and Twins games on their Fox Sports channel. The rest of the teams are blacked out in Iowa (unless of course they are on the MLB network or ESPN). Hope that helps.

  • yeah, that does. That is what i wanted to know if I was to ever pull the trigger by adding that package. as long as I am working the hours I do, i wouldn't catch many games to begin with. Just wish that when ESPN or MLB Network would show a game with those teams, I wouldn't be given the alternative game of the Pirates vs Marlins, or some other craptacular game like that.

Yeah, I guess i was under the impression that Iowa was in sort of a sweet spot with regard to the RSNs.

  • Baseball is only fun to watch in person. Most boring thing on television.

  • No other state in the nation has as many teams blacked out as Iowa - a state that has zero MLB teams within its borders. It's ridiculous.

  • I get jobbed by mlb.tv. As a red sox fans I can't watch any home or away games when they play the Twins, White Sox, or Royals. I also can't watch their interleague games against the Cards, Brewers, or Cubs.

  • it would be awesome for any league if you could purchase just your teams season (without being stifled by blackouts). I wonder if more subscribers shelling out less money to watch their team would be more profitable to Directv and these sports leagues to having less subscribers shelling out more money for the entire league (except for teams blacked out).

this is assuming that more people would be willing to spend money for their teams games.

  • I do like that idea, but besides the Red Sox, I like to catch Braves, Giants, and Dodgers games as well.
