TW never said anything about kids I believe. I just brought that up because that's what tos always use to say. TW has always said he just doesn't see the need for it. You should be able to make your point without using swear words. I do think it is kind of like politics and religion here. Sure some may be able to talk about it here and not get in pissing matches over it. But really it is kind of asking for trouble.

How is it asking for trouble? I would bet we all use the words in everyday life, maybe not as often as the next, but I guarantee we use them. We can handle it there, we can handle it here and as I've already pointed out, kids make no difference on the topic. You're not sheltering them by censoring 1 message board, most kids learn them by at least middle school so it's not like you're doing anyone a disservice, in fact I would argue sheltering kids is more of a disservice than anything else. Getting into pissing matches on here is already banned, yet it happens, allowing us to use a few uncensored words isn't going to increase the likelihood those pissing matches happen, if anything they're going to end them sooner.

It's just something else that can start a fight. It really doesn't bother me either way. I do agree with you about the videos. I don't see the harm there especially if you give a warning for bad language. But this site is a business. It would kind of be like if you went to McDonald's and they had censored big mac large censored fries on the wall. I think we all know kids know swear words. But that doesn't mean the business side of this site should promote the use of swear words. If you paying members really feel strongly about using swear words IDK what to say. I would let TW know how you feel which I think you guys have already done.

can you at least comment on whether or not it's Bush's fault? thanks

Its spelled Busch, and I don't think neither Tom Busch, former fullback from Iowa, or Anheuser has anything to do with this

  • Profanity was a big part of my form of expression and as a kid, I screamed the F word right there in my driveway when playing dogeball. My buddies said, it's been nice knowing you nc...sure enough about 2 minutes later the upstairs window opened up and mom said, "NC come in the house". Everyone gave me that cold stare that said..dam u arf fked. I hid in a closet for a few hours - my brother gave me a clock radio and his baseball cards. Heard mom walking around out in the room sayd" where is he?" I guess I'll just have to deal with him tomorrow". After a while I came out and offered myself up. She sat me on the toilet seat and took a bar of soap and slammed it into my mouth and rubbed it around all over the place.

From then on I learned how to selectively use profanity with remarkable agility.

Dad called it intellectual constipation. What's the matter son, don't you have the vocabulary to express yourself without profanity? Funny thing, when I hear other people cussing it sounds ignorant but somehow its ok when I do it.

I cuss like a drunken sailor most of the time. However, I still don't around my mother or my elders, or around young kids. My dad is ok with it, but he always taught me never to cuss around my mother. So it is selective and a habit that can be learned, even in today's society where we are inundated with it.

Look I have been through this before. People pay to be at this site. I get it. That's what you people have to understand. You know it was nice while it lasted. They haven't cracked down on that stuff as much as they could have. The fact that they are now I guess means this site is becoming more popular. Which is a good thing.

I haven't been here as much, what's been cracked down on?

Seems like videos with bad language. I don't know if they just didn't see them before or if they didn't care or what. But it looks like they aren't being allowed now.

  • i could see where the mods wouldn't want the actual board littered by F bombs, but i don't know why words like a*s and s**t couldn't be used in adult ways. i guess i don't understand the whole thing about links containing curse words. is that just videos or does that go for any link?

So because you or someone else "conceivably" doesn't like it, it can't even be discussed? That's the height of arrogance and irrationality right there.

It's literally no different than the event from a week or two ago in London where Lawrence Krauss almost walked out of a debate because the Islamic group who organized the event, tried to segregate seating according to Islamic law and values. It doesn't matter if someone is offended (as Muslims were after Krauss forced them to desegregate or he would leave), because it doesn't always make them right.

If anyone is interested, the article is talking about the incident, the video is actually what happened.

Britons afraid to challenge radical Islam, says former Obama adviser

British people are too afraid to offend a section of the Muslim community who demand that their cultural values are accepted by wider society, according to a former adviser to Barack Obama.

  • I am what I am! I talk like a drunken sailor because I WAS a drunken sailor. When talking to some of my college profs, I could sound like a grammer nazi with the best of them. When I am talking to friends, enemies and everything in between, the sailor comes forward naturally. I try and not use a few of the regressive K sounding words and if one should be appropriate to making a point, or expressing passion, I leave out a couple of letters so the word will not be a direct affront to those out there who have issues with curses and cusses.

Anybody seen the movie "Horrible Bosses"? I saw it tonight and damn neart puked from laughing.

If I'd gotten my point across through the arrogance of such a stupid rule than you wouldn't finish your post of with such an ignorant statement. It's starting to become clear that the arrogance of this rule is not the result of a reasonably thought out decision, but more from a misplaced sense of morality where you think you're doing "someone" a favor and that your strict totalitarian control of this rule without even the slight consideration of a reasonable argument against it is fully driven by an act of individual egoism.
