Bought the engagement ring!! I started a thread awhile ago saying it was going to happen but finally did it. Also picked out a beautiful ring if you as me. Thinking about asking in April (near her birthday maybe). Is it weird to ask on her birthday? I would still get her a gift.
Actually I think her finishing school and getting a good job made me buy it haha. Jk

Propose with a cheap plastic ring, replace it with real ring if she says yes, use her money for ring, profit.

I got engaged about 13 months ago, got married about 4 months ago. Not as bad as you'd think....yet. Good luck man. The wedding planning sucks(my wife did most of the planning because she wanted it that way) Don't go crazy on the wedding and spending a ton of money unless you have plenty to spend. We had an absolutely beautiful wedding for under $15,000. Great venue and decorations. We paid for all the tuxes and bridesmaid dress too.
I recommend going that route when trying to decide what to get your wedding party. They'd much rather have you pay for their tux then get a gift. I did that then just got them a mix of 6 of our favorite beers. We drank the beer together and had a great time at the rehearsal dinner. Also, if your fiance asks you to go to a bridal show with her, go to one. I won my wedding ring at the only one we went to. They were giving away 5 rings and there were probably only 10 guys at the entire show.
Have fun man. It'll be a great night. Just focus on having fun with everyone. Don't try to get around to everyone and talk to them at the expense of you having a great time. It will just eat into most of your night and you won't enjoy it as much. Talk to people as you see them or walk around. A quick "thanks for coming, great to see you,enjoy the evening" and be on your way. Good luck!

On a seperate note, congrats on getting the ring. My uncle once told me that getting married is a special time in a persons life, afterall most people only get married 3 or 4 times in a lifetime. jshawks
