Heading to Minneapolis for the weekend

  • Just getting out of town for the long weekend after a long couple weeks. Hitting up a Minnesota Wild game on sunday night. Any other suggestions on what to do? Where to eat?

  • I'll ask a couple of friends that live there if TWIB doesn't chime in. He'll probably have you covered if he sees this.

  • Don't have any recommendations, but I've heard Minny is a great town to go out in.

My buddies told me there were a crap ton of hotties up there. Jwolf is hitched though, he can't do anything to attractive blondes.

He can wank to them when his wife gets mad at him for something.

I assume you have heard of Surly before? I would suggest trying some of their beer (Surly Wet is a pretty hoppy beer fyi) if you haven't already.

  • When i went up in december, my friend yook me to Busters on 28th. Best burger i had in a while, and damn good wings. They also had a pretty impressive beer menu as well

Yep, my brother somehow almost always has a stock of Furious and Wet at my parents house, which he occasionally gives me sometimes.

The fact that he gives away Surly to me has less to do with the quality, and more to do with his frankly pretty remarkable beer selection he's amassed. He is the type of person who is absolutely not afraid to drop hundreds of dollars in any given time-span either "stocking up" on some rare beers or just having to spend a crap ton on beer. Just since July he's either had me pick up for him or me with him and spent well over $800 (being conservative) just on beer and told me before I came back to my apartment that he will be wanting more soon. Not to mention he not only reimburses me for picking stuff up for him, but he also sort of pays me by giving me some very good beer once in a while.

  • Too bad Wolfie is married, this place is loaded with Norwegian women. This is the worst time of year though as their hiding the goods under sweaters and coats, so it’s tough to get a good feel of what you’re really working with. Sometimes you just gotta take a risk and jump in - Who knows, you might strike gold?!

Interesting weekend ahead weather wise here in the Nord. Friday the high will be 40 and by Sunday the low will be -11. Been awhile since we've seen temps that low. How long are you in town for and where are you staying? Lots of great food in the area, what kind of food do you like? Are you looking to party? Uptown is a great place to grab a few beers and people watch. Lot’s of 20 something’s and you’ll get a mix of bro’s, hipster’s, regular peeps, and tons of chicks. Downtown Minneapolis will have a lot more douche bags, gold diggers, and 21 year old women who think they’re god’s gift to the world. If you’re with the right group it can be a good time, but drinks and food are much pricier. St Paul’s bars a lot more chill and an older crowd. Still a good time though.

Obviously, there’s the mall of America and Ikea for shopping…

The TWolves play Houston on Saturday night. I’ll be hitting that up but most of the team is pretty banged up right now and Harden took it to us in the 4th quarter last game. If anything, Rubio is worth checking out live. He could be the next great passer (Nast Style) but his offense is really struggling. ‘Nough said.

Here are my recommendations for food:

Joy's Pattaya Thai Restaurant - http://www.joyspattayathai.com/index.html. I know the owner and she is a sweet lady who knows how to cook. She's originally from Thy-land (Hangover 2 style) so everything is authentic. There are a lot of Thai restaurants around here but this is definitely my favorite. It's in an old 50's style dinner which makes it even cooler. Food is great, prices are reasonable. Highly recommend one of her daily specials or the pineapple fried rice (It comes in a pineapple...so cool!)

Teresa’s Mexican Restaurant - http://teresasmexicanrest.com/. My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, there’s one opening near me next month and I can’t wait. Queso is killer and the Chimi Changa’s are the shiz. Depending where you’re staying, might be too far to hit up.

58 Club - http://www.5-8club.com/ They were featured on Man vs Food, along with Matt’s Bar and features the infamous Juicy Lucy (Burger with the cheese instead the meat, careful the cheese is scolding hot!). Matt’s bar is just as good and their fries are way better but Matt’s is really small and cash only. If you decide to visit either, go at 11am or after 2pm as it can get really busy, especially on the weekends.

The Blue Door Pub - http://thebdp.com/ Another small awesome burger place. They make the Juicy Bluesy ( Juice Lucy with blue cheese) and have a lot more variations on the burger. The one with peanut butter and bacon is totally killer, I know it sounds terrible, but you have to try it, it’s really good. Oh, and they have Surly on tap!

Victor’s Café - http://victors1959cafe.com/ An awesome little Cuban restaurant. Great atmosphere and great food - Check out the menu.

Colossal Café - http://www.colossalcafe.com/ I haven’t been here yet, but it supposed to be amazing and the breakfast is rad. The lady makes everything from scratch and has here only little twists on things.

Broder’s - http://broders.com/ An awesome Italian restaurant that makes their own pasta and New York style pizza. A nicer place then most the restaurant’s I’ve listed so far.

Emily’s Lebanese – A hole in the wall in NE Minneapolis. If you want to try something different, check this place out. Worth the trip.

If you’re staying in St Paul, there are a lot of great restaurants over there as well; I just don’t know the area like I do Minneapolis. Other places to look into – Pizza Luce, Uptown Dinner, & Northbound Smokehouse.

  • Thanks, Twib. We're staying in Burnsville (saves us about 100 bucks on hotel). We'll be there late tomorrow and then leaving on monday during the day.

We really didn't have much planned. I know she'll want to hit up the MOA at some point (I'm boiling over in anticipation....) and then the hockey game on sunday night.

I want to go out on sat night but def don't want to hit up the douchebaggy areas. I'm a man of the people.

Someone at school suggested Nyes piano bar. Ever been?

  • There used to be a really good, high-class tittie bar downtown with mud wrestling upstairs.

I can't remember the name of the place though. BAU 4 me. ;-(

Burnsville is close to a lot of the places I listed, I wouldn't go out drinking in Burnsville though. I'd stick to Uptown, North East, or downtown MSP.

My buddy plays at Nye's occasionally, I've only been to the bar side once. It was super busy and crowded in the bar area but the music was fantastic. It was also really hot and I'm pretty sure I sweated my ass off on the pleather booth seats. I haven't been to the restaurant side where the piano part is. Food looked good though.

I'd also try and get a tour of one of the breweries (Summit, Fulton, or Surly).
