Have you ever met a celebrity?

  • Donie baseball is a pretty cool guy. He used to have a restaurant here in town but it closed. His ex wife is crazy but his new wife is pretty cool. I talk to him about once a week in the off season when he is in Evansville.

I dont know if its true or not but I hear if you go to a Dodgers home game and get word to the staff your from Evansville he takes care of you before and after the game.

OldOaken247 on twitter..... I say a lot of stuff you wont care about.

  • Alright heres my story. Full disclosure I barely consider him a celebrity.

Went down for FAC one day around 2004. My buddies and I are hanging out at Vitos at like 3 in the afternoon. Place is packed and everybody is getting lit. Ashton Kucher walks in and the place just erupts. All the girls are running up to him and getting pics taken etc. Well after about 20 minutes of this a bunch of frat guys start getting mad because hes getting all the attention. Frat guys start throwing their beers at Kucher and his buddies. Im sitting on a ledge totally away from the action because I dont really care much for him as a celebrity. So to avoid the attention Kucher decides to come stand by us because its a not busy area. Hes chilling by us for 5 minutes before a girl rushes him. First she bumps into me and spills my whole drink on him. He looks at me and hes all pissed off. His clothes are soaked. I said "your telling me man, that was a brand new drink."

  • Beachboys Mike Love...very cool guy. He was speaking at a national convention for school district administrators and was standing alone in the convention center, so I walked up and introduced myself...he chatted with me for several minutes, and it was a very comfortable conversation. Also met Hal Holbrook at a Perkins in Sheboygan, WI...believe it or not. His Mark Twain one man show is one of my all time favorites. Shook hands with Muhamad Ali years ago in the old Ballroom on the U of I campus...he gave a talk after they had suspended him from boxing due to his stance on the Viet Nam war. He was, in a word, brilliant. fun memories!

Mike Hampton; his wife and him are great friends with my Daughter and her husband. Met them last summer at my daughters wedding. Probably one of the coolest guys I ever met, so down to earth. He will talk to anyone. He loves meeting people and enjoys getting to know new people. He just recently gained a coaching job in Double A with the A's affliate in AK.

Meat Loaf, alot of fun. George Brett, Steve Garvey, Jose Cruz, to name a few. Jose Cruz walked through the whole crowd and talked and shook hands with anyone that wanted to talk. Awesome person by all means.

George Wendt "Norm" is exactly as you saw him on Cheers! Great friends with a good friend of mine. Had beers with "Norm".

Jerry Jeff Walker two nights in a row, Friday night in Madison WI and the next nite in C.R.. What an amazing time that was, free concert anyone? He palyed for 2 hours in a bar in C.R.

There are many more and alot of college players and coaches. My saddest moment in my life is I would have totally have loved to have met Walter Payton and spent some time with him. The greatest EVER!

Never got the oppurtunity but would have cherished it forever.

  • I have absolutely no cool stories. I've shaken the President's hand in passing on a couple occasions. That's it.

I have met a few of the VOTH celebrities, though.

  • My wife was at Dallas Clarks graduation party, she was best friends with a girl in his class and I hate her for it. She said knowing him in high school she never would have guessed he would have been so good.

Dallas Clark got married up in Okoboji probably like 7 years ago. My cousin thru marriage went to school at Twin River Valley and she got an invite. I literally was begging for her to take me as a +1 but she said it would be too weird if anyone found out. She said Kaeding was there along a few other teammates she didnt recognize. He was playing for the Colts at this time and a couple of those guys also went. I was super jealous.

I met President Bush in 2004. He was super friendly. I got to talk to him for like 3 minutes before he had to gtfo for some reason or another. Pretty surreal experience to meet the President of the United states.

you should've said "Do you know who I am sir? I am Froggy, a future HOF poster on VOTHOT. I demand you give me the proper respect i deserve"

i think that would've been simple and effective.

Damn, I missed my chance to say that. I'm sure it would have gone over well.

It's funny that Nash mentioned Jimmy Buffett, because the bar where I worked, the owner's husband had kicked out Buffett for fighting years before and Jimmy mentioned the name of the place in one of his most famous songs.

Buffett was a wannabe outlaw, but was mostly lazy, too interested in playing songs, drinking and dancing the belly-button boogie with the chickadees. A decent dude, who once in a while would jam with us techies - slumming it if you will. I liked him as I immediately recognized a fellow sinner, and felt he and I could have waded through a lot of women together if we'd been more of an equal situation. There were always a lot of them showing their tits to him when he was in concert. Too bad I was stationed out in the mixing console area, and could only see their backs!
