Off Topic Board

I was going through my documents I had saved on my computer, and I found this little gem that I wrote after seasons end. I posted this on HI and it is titled "The Night Before Bowl Week". Some of the HI folks might remember it, but I wanted to share it with my new friends over here too. Just remember this pertains to last year.

The Night Before Bowl Week

Twas the night before bowl week and despite all the polls, the fans were all dreaming of New Years Day Bowls. When the season had started twas rainy and windy, and we were all dreaming of playing in Indy. With Kirk chewing gum and Okeefe in his lap, they had just settled in for a long seasons nap. Norm in the booth who was once so astute, his best days behind him, he doesn’t recruit.
When out from Ames Iowa there arose such a noise, it was the Cyclowns, they were beating our boys. The coach he just stood there like a great stoic tree, then he sent in the command; “James…take a knee”. The first of five losses occurred on that day, we played down to their level, it’s the Kirk Ferentz way.
Pitt was a great comeback, Penn State was a bust, and beating Northwestern this year was a must. We beat Indiana but right from the start, their freshman QB tore our defense apart. The battle for Floyd made all Hawk fans sick, our staff was surprised by a late onside kick. The fans we all knew, but the staff won’t think big, and for 2 years in a row the goophs have our pig.
A win over Michigan gave us some hope, but Sparty would crush that while playing rope a dope. “We were not prepared” our coach did opine, but how could this happen with so much on the line? Not prepared in November? It sounds like coach spin, now onto Purdue for a meaningless win.
Nebraska was next for the new Heroes Game, and our offensive gameplan proved to be lame. The season turned out to be quite a teaser, and Iowa’s bowl sponser will be Little Ceasar. With this season a bust and nothing left in the tank, Kirk Ferentz is laughing all the way to the bank. But I heard him exclaim as he spoke with a tear, “Happy Bowl Week to all, expect the same thing next year.”
