Dwight Howard will only resign with 1 team

I'm definitely not upset that's for sure. biggrin

That'll definitely provide a major upgrade offensively for the Lakers. Nash isn't much of a defender, especially at this point in his career. But that offense will be much more difficult to stop now.

Scary thing is you guys could actually beat the Heat now. It has to all come together. That may be asking a lot, but it could happen.

OKC is still a very tough matchup for LA. Nash can't guard Westbrook.

  • Sounds like OKC, LA, Atlanta, and Chicago, and Golden State all have packages together to trade for Howard. Some nice looking deals for sure.

OKC's included Harden, Ibaka, Perkins, and someone else. - Not a bad trade. I'm not really a fan of Perkins and Ibaka and Harden isn't the type of player that can lead a team for an entire season. he's a great 2nd or 3rd option when you have another prolific scorer on the team.

LA - Bynum and Blake for Howard -- Gag! Please stay away Orlando!!

Chicago - Deng and noah were the main pieces. Again, not overly thrilled with this option. Doesn't give Orlando a 25 ppg player that can absolutely take over a game.

GS - Harrison Barnes, Klay thompson, Bogut and an unprotected 1st rounder for Howard. This is the most appealing to me in my opinion. Mainly because the unprotected first rounder and I am on the "Barnes will still develop into a great player" team. Bogut is a solid choice for a center. Thompson has good upside and can really shoot it. Add in a potential future lottery pick, and it's a solid package. Doesn't give you the immediate wow factor of a big time scorer, but Barnes could be there in a year or two. Now just trade Turkolugu, the king of offense killing, and I'd be happy.

  • Harrison Barnes is just another Deng pretty much. Sure he could be more, but essentially he is just a younger Deng. And Noah is one of my favorite players. He is a really good teammate and plays with a lot of heart. He is an excellent passer for a big man and does have some offensive moves. I actually wouldn't mind him over Bynum. Bynum may have a higher ceiling but Noah brings all the intangibles. I would like to keep Noah in Chicago but if it meant getting Howard, I might get over it someday.

What was the deal Atlanta is offering? I would think Orlando would listen if Josh Smith and a first round pick were involved.

  • TBH, I don't want Howard anywhere near Chitown. He's the opposite of what Chicago wants in a teammate, but he is a great basketball player and with Rose he would be scary. I just don't see it happening and the Bulls would be unloading a lot.

Yeah Bulls seem to have a really good locker room going now. Bunch of team players on the same page. Too bad a couple injuries held them back this year.

I see what you're saying about his personality, but I think he'll be a good teammate wherever he ends up. I really don't like how he's handled this situation, but I think he's just letting the business aspect overlap too much into the basketball side of things. Once the business end is handled, I would hope he'll return to the same guy he was a few years ago.

And Chicago already has a great defense. Think how great they'd be with him protecting the rim. And offensively, that'd open the lane even more for Rose, because no one would ever be able to help off of Howard.

Oh, he would definitely make their play a lot better, but is it worth losing one of the better all around SF in Deng, as well as a good garbage man in Noah and probably another piece or a few picks? Deng is the 2nd tier of the SF position (behind guys like Lebron and Durant, etc)

  • I know Deng doesn't really get much love because he isn't a true #2 option for Chicago. But he really is a solid overall player. He has made some big shots for Chicago, just not really in the playoffs.

Exactly. The dude has been an allstar and he plays very good defense. He can shoot the ball and he can dribble. He isn't a bad passer and he can get to the rim. He's a good player IMO, he's just not great.

  • And seriously Laker fans are spoiled. I was talking to one today about Nash. He was bummed they got him. He said he was too old. He wanted to get a Derrick Rose or D. Williams type younger player at Point Guard. I was like dude you just can't pick one of those guys off the street!!!banghead

  • The Magic's big move so far has been to resign Jameer Nelson, which I didn't really want to do. Jameer is a score first PG and they need a facilitator. Just not overly thrilled with it. If the Lakers are so high on Bynum, I don't see how trading for Howard is going to make them so much better. Defensive purposes only?

I just read a report too saying that an unnamed Lakers player was informed by the team that he could be traded at any moment with Bynum for Howard. So it does sound like the talks are getting pretty serious. As a Lakers fan, I would have no problem with a Nash, Kobe, Artest, Gasol, Howard lineup. Although they may try to unload Artest w/ the Magic.

I honestly didn't watch Orlando play enough to form my own opinion, but from what I understand, he still produced when the lights came on. He was definitely a major distraction off the court, and I can see why that'd be a major red flag for some teams/fan bases, but my impression was that his performance didn't really suffer.

That's a good question, but I think that just illustrates that it'd be a pretty fair trade for both sides. If Orlando got Deng, Noah and a first or two firsts in exchange for Howard and maybe another bad contract, I could see both sides walking away feeling pretty good about it. As for Deng, with his contract, I think the Bulls would be going with the mindset of being able to find someone who's just about as good for far less money. The key would obviously be finding that player and acquiring him.

He's a tough player, no doubt. I know he always gives Pierce fits. And like you and UI said, he excels on both ends of the court. Especially with his contract not being that club-friendly, I still think he's expendable in a deal for someone like Dwight Howard.

Completely agree with you guys. But you've got to give up value in order to get value back. Without sending out players like Noah and/or Deng, Chicago wouldn't have a chance of landing Howard.

I gotcha. A package of Smith, someone else (Jeff Teague was a beast in the playoffs) and two firsts would be a pretty good deal.

Yeah, that doesn't even make sense. I don't think that person understands the salary cap or how trades work.
