Cowboys select Morris Claiborne at #6

  • derHawkeye said... but I know every single draft there's guys who don't get drafted until the 5th, 6th rounds for one reason or another, but have a ton of talent.

Just no DL or OL that late has any talent?

I'm just focusing on this year der. If you want to live in the past that's fine.

In absolutely no way was that "living in the past," it's called "establishing a history." People are creatures of habit and if Jerry Jones can't let the man who created a 3-time Superbowl winning team do his own thing, than why the hell would he let a 2nd year head coach do it.

  • And maybe they could play Morris at safety? Move him around a bit? I don't know what Dallas will do, but I love this pick. Sorry I couldn't cheer you up about it. cheers

To make this as easy as possible for you to understand, there are very few OL and DL that late in the draft who have a chance of even becoming a starter someday. The fact is most OL and DL that late are projects, career backups, scout team players, etc. It's much easier finding an athlete who could even become a starter within 2-3 years of being in the NFL than someone who's going to be a starting OL or DL.

That would just prove he wasn't worth the pick. If he isn't going to be a 1st year starter at CB, then he is a bust.

  • Well The Giants just won a Super Bowl with a Crappy oline. And Tyron Smith looked pretty good as a rookie. And Dallas still has some guy named DeMarcus Ware. Call me crazy but I think Dallas will be a ok Der. cheers

And a secondary that should be pretty damn good for the first time ever with Romo.

  • Look Wolf if Dallas stays healthy this year and Romo blows it. There isn't much I will be able to say. But I know that won't happen. I like to look on the positive side of things, unlike someone else in this thread....Cough, Cough, der....Cough, Cough.

  • And der I just heard the Cowboys scouts say Morris is the best CB they graded since Deion Sanders came to Dallas as a free agent. That's counting all the drafts since then. I just wish you would smile a little bro. cheers

  • To this thread: TL,DR

but I absolutely loved the pick... think its the best the boys have made in a long time. Only gave up a 2nd round pick, ill take it considering what some of these other teams give up to move up in the draft. Welcome aboard MO!

Honestly I wouldn't be too surprised if we were planning on getting rid of Jenkins or Scandrick after this pick, but I still feel it's a stupid idea unless we're going to get a VETERAN DL or OL player in the process. There's a less than 1% chance he turns into the next Darrell Revis, if those odds are good enough for you, then keep playing the powerball every week. How many have the ceiling? I don't know or have seen film from every player in the draft so expecting me to answer that is just unrealistic, but I know every single draft there's guys who don't get drafted until the 5th, 6th rounds for one reason or another, but have a ton of talent.

Less than 1%??? Hahahaha. C'mon man. They moved from mid 1st round to #6 and only had to give up their 2nd round pick for the player most people had as 1 of the top 3 players in the draft. CB was a huge need as well as DL and Safety. Barron wasn't going to get to them at 14, and I wasn't that impressed with most of the d-linemen that were taken in the 1st round. I didn't think their was a can't miss dline player so its best to take a guy like Claiborne. He's an idiot, but he's a stud football player. just don't have him as the players rep to the media for your team.

3rd round needs to go Oline or Dline, or safety, and then 4th rounds need to be the other two. Try and move into the 2nd round with the right deal though. It's possible.

To be fair with Mo Clairborne and the 4 on the Wonderlic, he said he didn't see any football questions so he didn't try at all. Maybe that does show some immaturity, but I wouldn't put much stock in the low wonderlic score. I have listened to a couple interviews with him tonight. He sounds like a good kid. cheers

So you heard him talk? You can't tell me that he is a real intelligent. I couldn't care less what his wonderlic score was but his quotes make me cringe.

“I know what type of person I am," he said. "I know that test don’t reflect how I learn or what type of person I am. I looked on the test. There weren’t no questions that came with football, so I pretty much blew the test off.

“All the talk I was hearing was the Wonderlic test is really not that important. Everybody I talked to, coaches and all, were like, ‘That test don’t mean nothing. It’s not going to declare where you’ll go in the draft.’ I’m here for football.”

Well he isn't getting paid for his intelligence. I did question how he could score so low. But I will be a homer and give him the benifit of the doubt. He didn't try. Dude can play, anyone can see that. And that's that.

  • And look, Dallas had him as the #2 overall player on their board behind Luck. So everyone in Dallas should be happy about this.

  • I'm always baffled that people try to blame Romo for all of Dallas's troubles. Good Lord, the guy has won playing injured cause his Oline isn't worth a crap for half of his career. He has won inspite of them. He made Laurent Robinson look like a Hall of Famer last year after nobody wanted him. Dez was hobbled all year long and Miles missed half the season, yet he still put up very very good numbers. The defense(mainly the secondary) has been the problem the last few years. Now that I hopefully won't have to watch a CB like Terrence Newman get torched at least once a game, I think the secondary will be much better. Carr and Claiborne are enormous improvements. If Dallas can find a couple serviceable Safeties, move Tyron Smith to LT, and either move Free to RT or get rid of that waste of space, they will be in good shape.

    KCHawk25

  • Yeah, no way Laurent Robinson gets 11 TDs with the Jags this year. It was Romo's ability to scramble and extend the play, that got him that many TDs. Robinson was good at getting open but it was usually after Romo was running for his life.

Cowboys are shopping Mike Jenkins | ProFootballTalk

The Dallas Cowboys surprised everyone by trading up from No. 14 to the sixth overall pick and selecting cornerback Morris Claiborne.  Somewhat less surprising is that, with the arrival of Brandon Carr via free agency and Claiborne via the draft, starting cornerback Mike Jenkins is now regarded as e...

Words around Cowboys nation is that they want to move back into the 2nd round to go after Coby Fleener. Physical freak at TE that would be a great compliment to Witten and would be the Witten of the future. I could see where this would be a good move if they can get Fleener, but I think they have more pressing needs than a 2nd TE.

I have seen Jerry say they were happy with the defensive line. And they did have some injuries in the offensive line last year. It's easy to say Dallas doesn't need a Tight End when they have Witten. They guy never misses a game and always produces. Still if he went down with a serious injury, Dallas is more than likely screwed. Phillips has looked good, but I don't think he is close to Witten. And Dallas supposedly drafted another Witten in Martellus Bennet a few years ago. That didn't work out. So I wouldn't kill them if they went after a tight end in the 2nd round.

But Janoris Jenkins is still out there. Would you rather have Mike Jenkins or him? And how early will that Fleener go? Trade Jenkins and like a 4th? to move up? It might be pretty hard for Dallas to get back into the 2nd round.
