Coolest (Non Hawkeye) Sports Venue You've Been To

  • What's everyone got?
Fenway Park edges out Wrigley for me.

Really? Care to explain? I'm a Cubs fan, but I actually loved Fenway. Just the way the place is set up, its really neat. Plus it was Manny's first game back as a Dodger, so that could be it. I guess I saw Bonds crush 2 HR's on his way to the all time record at Wrigley. It was just a cold windy day in Chicago, so it wasn't as exciting as I really played up my first Cubs game to be.

  • I'm not a big baseball fan, don't really follow it at all. However, my ex was a huge Cardinals fan, and we went to Opening day there 2 years ago. It was a pretty damn good time.

15 National Championships and one Urban Meyer heart attack, Roll Tide. 23 NC's in wrestling and one badass Herky, Go Hawks.

  • Both are awesome don't get me wrong, and maybe it's because I have been to Wrigley multiple times and Fenway only once, but I have had some awesome experiences as Wrigley including getting to shake hands with Harry Caray. I have a piece of Wrigley field ivy in a frame from 1986 when I got to go on the field during camera day and meet some players etc. So it may be a sentimental choice.

  • The coolest baseball game that I ever attended live was on July 1, 1990 at "old" Comiskey Park. White Sox vs. Yankees. We had box seats along the 1st base line and Andy Hawkins pitched a no hitter for the Yanks and LOST on 3 Yankee errors. It was only the 2nd time in major league history that any pitcher had pitched a no hitter and lost. The rules were later changed so that it could never happen again and the ball that Hawkins was pitching with is in Cooperstown. I still have the newspaper clippings and the ticket stub to this day.

  • Another good time was Michigan International Speedway in August of 98. Some friends of mine and me rented a Winnebago and drove up and camped on the infield. We were there for time trials, happy hour, the Busch race and the WInston Cup (as it used to be called). I partied hard and we had pit passes. Got to see Dale Earnhardt (Sr and Jr) Jeff Gordon, Bobby LaBonte and a host of others. It was so cool. During the evenings we had campfires and there was women everywhere, and my job was to sit on top of the Winnebago in a lawn chair, and hit chicks passing by with our spot light and holler "SHOW US YOUR TITS!". I was very good at my job and we got lots of great photos. lol

I used to be, but when they cancelled the world series in 94 because of greed, I never really came back to the game. I watch the series usually, and every once in a while I get drunk and wax nostalgic about baseball, but I have never really embraced it like I used to, and I was a HUGE fan.

Yeah, that would have pushed me away too. I'm very off and on with it but I absolutely love live games. Nothing like catching a game at the ball park on a nice summer day with friends.

  • The Masters in 2007 when Zach Johnson hung on to beat Tiger Woods and then again last year when Bubba Watson won in a playoff.

Roof top of any Cubs game, guarantee it is worth every penny you spend, especially if you go with a group of people.

The opening of the first retractable roof in the US when the AZ Diamondbacks hosted San Fransico in 1998 at Chase Field. This is the first time I had seen vendors walking though the crowd yelling out 'Strawberries" Strawberries" and then the next guy"Vegetables" "Vegetables". Different at the time, now they all do it.

Anyways we tipped the beverage vendor pretty good and said when the end of the 7th comes around come see us. With 2 outs left he shows up and sits on the aisle next to us. We order 8 beverages (Anheiser) and he gives us all 2 apiece and charges for 1 apiece. He has one with us as sales are over and we are talking. Right before he finishes his beer they have on the big video screen the server of the day and it's the Miller Lite guy. He grabs his empty carrying case and as he is walking away he says. "He carries his beer, I sell mine"

This has a partial Hawkeye but before we knew about it. In 1986 when living in WI we ordered tickets to the NCAA Bball tournament in the Metro Dome in January. Little did we know Iowa and ISUck would both make it to the MetroDome.
    On Thursday;
#11 Iowa and Sir Jamelot ended up losing to #6 NC St 66-64 in the first round in a very close game. NC St had Shackelford at the time. Ravelings last game.
#7 Iowa State won on a last second Jeff Grayer shot in OT against #10 Miami OH on a beautiful pick..
The #2 Wolverines won against #Akron 70-64 game that was close all the way.
The night ended (we were going to leave) with #14 Little Rock Ark upsetting #3 Notre Dame in a most fantastic anti Notre Dame crowd 90-83. This was the second # 14 to pull an upset in the first round that year as Mouse McFadden and Cleveland State upset LSU also.
On Saturday MI lost to Isu and and Nc St beat ARK L R to move to the sweet 16, with NC St beating ISUck to go to the seet 8.

    What a weekend it was!

    I could go on butt?????

  • Been to Wrigley a couple times, its nice. It's a lot smaller then what you would think, but it's still pretty cool.

Also was at Chase Field (I think it was called Bank One Ballpark back then, where the D-Backs play) in 1998 or 1999, I can't remember which. But they were the first Major League team I saw in person, so they're my favorite team. I always joke I must be the only D-backs fan in Iowa.

Went to Penn State in 09 during the "whiteout" and the "revenge" game against Iowa. That was fun. Beaver Stadium is pretty nice, even though we were 7 rows from the top of the stadium.

Been to Lambeau Field too, twice, both times against crappy teams. One was against the Panthers during Farve's last year, when the Panthers started Vinny Testaverde, so it was the game with the two oldest starting QB's ever.

Those are probably the nicest places I've been. Been to ISU's stadium, Minny's gym, Northwestern's Stadium, the UNI-dome, the Scottish soccer stadium, uhhhhhh probably some others but I can't remember right now.

ihawks76, my friend. That's cool. My niece, an Iowa State grad, grrrr, worked at Augusta National as a horticulture expert. Now works at some big time course Bill Gates plays. She says she could get tickets but I don't want to go to Georgia unless you are going to be there.

Anyway, back to the topic, I love going to horse racing tracks. The more obscure the better. There is something pure about that sport. You never know what is going to happen with horses. Noble beasts. Wish I could say the same for the people who own and race them.
