Watching some coverage of the people out East got me thinking about that. I think we were out for about a week due to an ice storm in Des Moines in the early 90's.
White power or black power?
Currently, I have neither it seems.

24 hours after a storm. I borrowed my dads generator to get the fridge and deep freeze running and as soon as I hooked it up the power came back on. I since have purchased a generator that will run the bare essentials in my house.

In October of '97, there was a bad ice storm in the Des Moines area overnight on a Saturday and all day Sunday. My family stayed home and watched "The Sixth Man" (on VHS) instead of going to church. Shortly after the movie was over, some powerlines outside our house got too heavy from the weight of the ice and came crashing down. We were without power for about 48 hours. That Sunday night, we listened to Game 7 of the 1997 World Series on a battery-powered radio.
