What's your routine? Where do you like to tailgate? Do you have a regular group? Are you a season ticket holder or do you like to scalp? Any special traditions or foods? Let's hear it folks!
I'm a long time season ticket holder until a couple of years ago. I have tailgated all over the place, west lot behind Kinnick, Olive Court, FInkbine and the FInkbine Commuter lot, Hancher lot, but for years and years our regular haunt was in the college of dentistry lot. But then we were displaced because that became donor parking and while I was a member of the I club, I was not at that level. So we switched off between Hancher and the FInkbine commuter lot. As for food, we have had all different kinds, but a major staple of the jshawks tailgate has always been the ribeye steak sandwich on an onion bun. I offer sauteed mushrooms and onions and mozerella cheese to go on the sandwich for those that want it as well. One of our traditions has always been to seek out fans of the opposing team and we always come with a beer peace offering. It's been a great way to get to know some cool fans of other teams, some of which I still keep in touch with.
This thread makes me sad.
Because I haven't been to Kinnick since '95.
Well nobody told you to abandon us in Iowa for the Lone Star State, Mister!
Actually Perk, the Kinnick experience has diminished so much over the years that that is part of the reason that I gave up season tickets. The tailgate gestapo and the Uof I's war on anything fun, Olive court gone, the Magic Bus debacle, not being able to leave at halftime and get back into the stadium, high ticket prices for an inferior product on the field, etc etc.
It's still a good time don't get me wrong, but not near the fun and freedom that there used to be.
204 Golfview Ave - a par three due west of Kinnick across the railroad tracks.
I'm renewing my 5 season tickets, but only myself and a ticket for Wischawk are spoken for (along with NYChawk for the home opener.) Therefore I normally have extra tickets available if anyone is interested.
11:00 games - Dutch apple cinnamon sausages on a toasted hoagie with egg, cheese and hot sauce. Bloody Marys and beer.
2:30 games - lunch of clam chowder at Mickeys, then head to Kinnick for a few drinks.
Late afternoon and evening games - A day of partying with a hotel stay after the game.
Tailgate at Finkbine Commuter lot.
Lots of beer and grilling whatever before it's time to head to stadium.
Not sure yet if going to renew season tickets.... Letter is sitting on the table waiting to be sent back in.

As BBR reported, 204 Golfview is a great start to a Saturday Tailgate. He forgot to mention that whenever I am there, there is Leinenkugel beer varieties and world class age white cheddar cheese to be shared.
If you get a moment, stop on bye. We are often sitting in lawn chairs planning the victory dance before every home game.

If you walk on Melrose to Kinnick, there's a trail that goes off to your right, just before the bridge. I got a friend with a spot there, and have been tailgating there consistently for the last 4 years. Rumor is Bluzman even stopped by here.
BBR, I will be glad to take you up on that, I try to make as many as possible. Sometimes I have other obligations on Saturdays, so I have to stay and watch at home.
Love cooking up some brats and wings.
u serious clark? what the hell is wrong with you bro!?
Just been living away from Iowa and it's a pain in the ass to fly into Iowa for just a weekend.
My daughters always have first right of refusal, but as they get bigger they are going to Kinnick less and less. Because of their first right of refusal and procrastination in telling their old man that they aren't going, it is often short notice.
Otherwise, I'm always glad to meet a VOTHer. I'll keep you in mind. Stay tuned this fall.
First hand knowledge, BBR makes a mean Breakfast sandwich with his Grillin expertise.
BBR....... I promise not to mooch tickets and sandwiches at your excellent Tailgate this year.
Hope we get some 2:30 games, this year. Definitely the best for Tailgating and Hawkeye enjoyment, generally.

We have a pretty nice setup in the Finkbine lot. I'll be renewing, but I hope I can make all the game, but I don't know what my rotation schedule will be.
here is a little recipe that one of my friends always makes before we get together for the titan games in CR (which is coming to an end for me since security threw us out the last game for yelling at the refs...stupid ice arena security, what a joke)
a pack of little smokies,
a pack of meatballs
1 small bottle of water
1 can of beer
1 bottle of franks hot sauce.
put on grill until they are nice and hot.
we then place the balls and weinies on a bun and sprinkle cheese all over it.
it is pretty good. I made it and took it to my fantasy football draft last year and it went over pretty well
