Do you listen to Kendrick Lamar? If so, thoughts on him? J. Cole?
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
Sorry to butt into your thread UI, but I would like your opinion on a couple of artists that my kids like. I am totally ignorant of rap and just can't get into it, but my kids like Tech 9 and Hopsin. What's your take?
I think they are pretty good choices. How old are your kids if you don't mind my asking? Tech N9ne is more of an "underground" artist, but he's pretty talented and as weird as he can be (who can't?) he is regarded as a pretty good artist around my age group 16-26ish. I listen to him sometimes.
Hopsin is totally different. I've followed him for awhile, a little before he began to gain some popularity, so I know a lot of his songs. He first came on as the angry artist trying to "attack" others with his words, but its nothing bad. His first album RAW was alright, and there are some songs with great meaning behind them. Some compare him to Eminem, but I wouldn't go that far, totally different IMO. If you want a good thought of Hopsin, listen to a recent song of his. I'll post the video here, but if you don't wanna listen, read the lyrics. The song has a good meaning and I think thats the way his music is going.
Again, these are just my opinions. I'm not really great music critic but I'm open to almost all types of music (go away Dubstep, seriously).
Also a bit of a warning - language in this song is NSFW.
Lyrics are probably a better idea, and this site gives you a meaning of the lines if you click the yellow text on the site.
EDIT: Also still pretty bummed I missed the Hopsin concert.

Thanks bud. My kids are 16 and 18 so they fit in the age group you mentioned. I'm not really worried that the music is poisoning their mind or anything, they are old enough to make their own decisions on their likes and dislikes without my interferance. Since you are not much older than my oldest, I was just curious as to your opinion of their faves. Tech 9 is by far their favorite artist, but they like Hopsin as well, and they have seen both in concert. On another note...how are things with the family? Ok? Not so good? Just wondering if I can help.
Pretty confusing. My mom called me a couple nights ago to "explain" things but I didn't really want to talk at the time since I was studying.
Well PM me if you need to vent or want some advice. I'm prolly about your folks age so I might be able to offer a different prospective. Anyway...I will stop high jacking your thread and let others comment on the rap artists they enjoy.
i like kendrick and j cole. both are good up n coming artists.
I like them both as well. However, Tech 9 was mentioned earlier, not really a big fan of his. I like a few songs of his, and I've seen him in concert once. But I only went to the concert because Paul Wall was performing too.

I'm really excited to see Kendrick in concert. I really like him.
