Yesterday playing basketball I dove on the floor for a ball and extended my arm to hit it to a teammate. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but someone ran into me in the shoulder area.
Here are my symptoms.
- Large hard knot on the top of my shoulder that is very tender to the touch.
- Pain when moving my arm in any direction, but especially when lifting it over my head. No strength when trying to support something above my head.
- I don't see any bruising, just the knot sticking up. You can see the knot, it isn't just there to the touch.
- Least pain when in the "sling" position.
- There is a little bit of clicking if i move my arm in a circular motion. You can't really hear it but I can feel it on the top of my shoulder.
What do ya'll think? Did a tear a muscle? Dislocate? Just being a pussy?
Being a pussy, just a nerve. Will be fine once swelling goes down. Take some ibuprofen and do shots.
No I did not lose a sig bet, but I am really really really ridiculously good looking.
Are you a doctor? Just curious.
No, and fwiw I wouldn't listen to me.
Not knowing how hard the lump is, you may have broken your AC joint or torn a muscle (Which would be quite painful to use). I'd get it checked out.

Not really any give in the lump.
I'd go get it checked out. at least get a xray done to rule out fracture
Sounds expensive. Of course I haven't used my insurance at all this year so I'll have to pay it all. Sweet.
What kind of cut rate insurance do you have it should just be an office visit with a co pay
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
Sounds like insurance to me. He probably has to pay for th X-ray. It's not usually considered in with an office visit. At least not for my insurance it isn't.

SHould specify if your Dr has it in a the clinic it is an office visit, if you have to go to a hospital it is not
You're lucky then. I've had years where I wished I could afford a van to park by the river. Ok it hasn't been that bad but my sons first year of life was expensive.
I'm not sure how that works for us. I know when my son went for stress tests they were done in office but I don't remember how much we were billed. I just remember their being stuff that wasn't covered.
I better go over my insurance to make sure what all is included.
Back to my symptoms, I guess there isn't an extra knot on my shoulder, there is a knot already there on both shoulders, the one on my injured shoulder is just a little bigger and super tender to the touch.
That is all. I'm a pussy.
I would still get it checked because if it is a fracture you will regret it if yo don't do something about it. Who is your provider for insurance? I may not be a doctor but have had 6 surgeries the last 3 years and am very aware of what insurance (at least my insurance covers) and mine is only from a small business.
Sounds like teh AIDS to me.

Just looked at my policy. I'm screwed. of course, as a perfectly healthy young male chose the cheapest insurance I could through my work and I have to hit my deductible before anything else is paid for. My deductible is 2 grand. Lol. However, I just got married, so I can change my policy if I want. Might have to work the system here and get a better policy with a lower deductible. I'm not sure how much an x-ray costs though.
Not horrible up here but I live in hillbillyville Iowa. That sucks bro but still if you have a fracture or chip in your shoulder it is going to be a lot more than an xray to fix it later in life. My one surgery costs 38 thousand and that was just 1 of em
i'd go without use of my arm before i paid 40 grand out of my pocket for a surgery.
Last x-ray I got cost $45.
Edit: With a co-pay. So I believe that was 20%

I saw a van the other day advertising it was a mobile x-ray and ultrasound company. I'd never heard of that. Kind of a good idea, I guess.
Beware those bumps, knots and bruises that people tell you to rub a little dirt on it and get back in the game. They come back to haunt your ass later. Shoulder injuries that aren't really that bad turn out to look like a spray of hair like fettucini when x-raye ten years later. Rotater-cuffs, ligaments and tendons all a jumble and you can't even fap anymore. There are a million others, knees, ankles, wrists, hips, fingers, necks, backs, johnsons, WB's and on and on. Go get an x-ray so you can avoid waking up one day with $100,000.00 worth of reconstructive surgery to fix that minor injury you had back when you were young and invinceable.
from a PT POV it does sound like a AC injury, look up AC joint or seperated shoulder and see if that is comparable to your injury
I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.
