San Fran is one of the greatest cities in America and has some of the best and brightest people. World class city.

I've been to most of the places you all have mentioned, for one reason or another. Work mostly.
One thing I learned is you need to watch out for yourself wherever you are. Sometimes the little cities are worse than the big ones.
Everybody thinks Detroit is so scary. Hmmm.... Maybe. Mostly myth imo..
I was doing this fiber optic job on the People Mover train in downtown D in the late 90's. We couldn't start until after midnight because the train was electric and that was when they shut it down. If you touched the tracks you could be electrocuted when they were charged.
Anyway the headquarters were downtown D. The place had security but not so much. For a couple of days they had their main door messed up and you had to go to the back door. No lights back there. It was the garage entrance.
So I was buzzing in and hear this movement. It was homeless guys covered with newspapers and whatever they could cover themselves with on the sidewalk right by the door. I wasn't so much scared as shocked
This is America, right.
You never know though......
