Me too. I could have played basketball at Central for less than I'm paying at Iowa and would not have done it. To me, Central is like playing high school still.
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
I'm I'm coralville now, just moved last Sunday
I'm kind of philisophical about it. I did what I did and that's it. Bad stuff or missed opportunites were the outcome of a lack of maturity.
I wish I would have grown up sooner. I was behind the curve from the get go. I short when I was little. Hit puberty later than a lot of people. Didn't have as much athletic ability as I wish. None of these things were in my control. I was pretty shy with the girls - in part because of the stuff above. It worked out ok in time though.
Wish I would have quit drinking sooner than I did. But it is what it is.
My moto - It's what you do next.
Have you found your life significantly better since you quit drinking?
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
Now my problems are living problems, not drinking problems. I am far less selfish than before and far more self aware. I have learned to abide in the moment and enjoy things like I did as a kid. Had great memories of my childhood and I wasn't drunk then...so that proves joy is possible without alcohol.
The two greatest gains are self respect and peace of mind. It has also cleared the way for spiritual growth - something that I always tried to do but was frustrated with. Took a long time to figure it out. Time takes time. I couldn't stop until I was entirely ready.
2 year milestone today. Pretty amazing given that I thought going 2 weeks without getting drunk was a huge deal. It truely is 1 day at a time.

Congrats NC! That is truly awesome!
Good work, NC. Keep it up!
I wish I would have taken the classes to help me with my MCAT and get into med school. Now it seems pointless, and the student loans my husband and I already have, it's not worth it.
hey, we have a lot of older students in the DO program at DMU. One guy is in his 40s I think, another one or 2 are in their mid 30s.
If you want to do it, do it. Of any profession, medicine at least allows you to pay off loans, although it does take a long time.
My husband went to Palmer college of chiropractic. That's ~$170,000 in student loans, which will start next month and I'm not sure how we're going to pay for them. Me adding another 200,000+ in loans doesn't seem like a good idea. So I'm still trying for Ph.D programs, which I will get paid for because of it being a science degree.
What area? I thought you said you have a MSA, so are you looking to do a Ph.D. program in anatomy?
my dad went to Palmer. Graduated when I was in third or fourth grade.
he just retired recently and sold his practice
I do. I'm looking for a Ph.D in whatever science. It's all the same pretty much. Just mainly depends on what I can tolerate writing another thesis on. I'd rather have med school, but I won't get the student loans with this. My MS degree was paid for too, along with a stipend. I was teachign anatomy wtih it too, and I did enjoy that.
That's where I got my MS degree from too.
Yeah, the cost of school is atrocious. If it's what you really want to do and your husband is making alright money once he gets working as a chiro, might as well try the med school route. A good buddy of mine here is 35 with 2 kids (1 special needs) and is making it work. My loans and my wife's from undergrad came out to about 70K, 2 years of med school so far has added another 120K and my wife may go back and get another certification in teaching. Currently we live on her income as a substitute teacher and my loans. It's a ton of money, we make it work and it'll be worth it in the end.
Besides, doesn't everyone like having student loans until they're 60?
Review Time [hellowalls]
You can beat yourself up about all kinds of things if you are so inclined. You can doubt every moment of your life if you want. I'm a glass half full guy. Move on and forget the second guessing. There could be something great you never imagined around the corner.
There is a reason we call it hindsight.
Before there was space or time there was rock and roll.
Hi NC, long time no see. Hope you are back to stay. Dendro too. Glad to hear your life has improved. Keep up the good work.
Where do you live NC? Somehow I thought you were from Burlington where I lived for 32 years. Imay be confusing you with someone from my old HI days.
I believe he lives in North Carolina if I'm not mistaken.
So Hellowalls is in North Carolina?
Hellowalls is everywhere. By day he is mild mannered NCHawk, but his alter ego Walls has powers of omnipresence.
