My Dbacks dropped one to the Pirates (how does that happen?) last night. I have a feeling it's going to be a streaky year for them, and that doesn't exactly sound like fun.
Choo has been a godsend this year and Bruce will only get better. IIRC he's one of only a couple of players to increase his homerun and RBI totals his first 4 (?) years in the majors. The awesome thing about this year so far for Cincinnati is that the offense has been clicking with Votto struggling to hit.
Yanks got back to .500 on the young season. If they could somehow go a tad over that in the next month I'll be feeling pretty good. Just hoping to tread water until we get the starters back.
Just saw this after tonight's game. Tough loss to the Cardinals, but I'd be thrilled with winning two out of three once again if the Reds can win tomorrow. As you said, Choo is a huge asset for the Reds so far this year. Bruce has been hitting well, but if he ever reaches his potential, the lineup would be much scarier.
It'll be interesting to see how the AL East plays out this year. The Blue Jays got a ton of publicity for once in the offseason. As you said, I think the Yankees can make a late push as long as they can stay within striking distance of everyone in the meantime.
Dbacks fall to 5-3, after losing to the Pirates again tonight, 6-5. Not exactly an exciting game.
I've always said that winning two out of three will get you really far in the MLB.
Everybody is going to win 50 and everybody is going to lose 50. It's what you do with the remaining 62 that matters.
Life is hard. It's really hard if you're stupid.
Reds are going off right now. Phillips is the only bright spot on my fantasy team right now which is fairly surprising with some of the players I have.
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
Yep, three nice wins over Philly this week. They badly needed them, too, after losing 2 of 3 in STL and getting swept by the damn Pirates.
Interestingly, Phillips credits his fast start this season to playing in the World Baseball Classic and having a chance to pick the brain of some other really good hitters. Hope he keeps it up and has a career year.
And the cubs season is effectively over. Good times.
I'll leave these here as well.
He definitely bailed the Reds out big time. They'd had a lot of trouble getting anything going offensively.
With 2 out, R1 and R2, Marmol walks the bases loaded. It's his 2nd walk of the inning.
Cubs/Reds tied at 2 in the bottom of 9th.
I'm kind of disappointed, Marmol got the next guy to ground out.
Too bad the Reds didn't have it in them tonight.
You mean too bad Kevin Gregg didn't do his best Kevin Gregg?
I realize it's still early, but it's a bit worrisome to see how bad the Reds have been offensively this year. The starting pitching has been phenomenal, and it's got to be extremely frustrating for those guys to pitch so well and not pick up any wins.
Dbacks win! In 12, after being up 4-0 going to the 8th and giving up 2 in that inning then 2 more in the 9th. Not exactly great, but hey it's a W.
Also, hate that nearly all the diamondback games start at 8 or 9 pm cst. Ever heard of the "day game?"
How perfectly Cubs-like is it to keep running Marmol out there when he couldn't get me out? And I am a long-suffering (45 years) Cubs fan. Why, oh why, couldn't I have been born a Yankees fan or something?
Do you have the mlb.com package where you can watch games online? If not, it's a pretty good deal, because you can watch the games on archive and fast forward through them. Not sure what your work/school schedule is like, but you could watch part of a game at night, and then finish it in the morning the next day. It's a bit of a pain because you have to bury your head in the sand in terms of not hearing the final score until you've had a chance to finish watching the game, but it's better than nothing.
