Saw a report that the Minnesota Wild is moving their AHL team from Houston to Des Moines.
Good. I still don't understand how the Stars moved from Minneapolis to Dallas. You can drive around Minneapolis at midnight on a Tuesday in January and see a number of pick up games around the city. I've been to high school hockey games in Minnesota that had bigger crowds than my high school's football games.
It says they're playing at Wells Fargo Arena. I wonder if that arena was built to accommodate switching it to ice.
I'm by no means a hockey expert or even a fan, but it's got to be a lot more convenient to have their AHL team in Des Moines than in Houston. Mainly in terms of being able to attend practices and games of the AHL team, calling guys up to the NHL, etc.
It will be nice. But I think they're planning on using Wells Fargo Arena, and their season runs at the same time as the Iowa Energy (NBA D-league) so it will be interesting how they work out the schedules to have both teams.
It was a Wiser for Aeros switcheroo. I think Houston won this trade...
A few NHL/NBA arenas do that (Chicago, New York, LA, Boston, etc.,), but I'm honestly not sure how common that is at the minor league level.
