  • So I was in the grocery store yesterday afternoon. I went to the register to check out and the cashier was talking to a co-worker. She kept on talking for what felt like a minute, without starting to ring up my stuff. I said 'are you going to ring me up or are you going to make me stand here and listen to your entire conversation?' She looked shocked when I said this and began to ring my stuff up. Didn't say a word to me. Am I a dick for saying this?

Me too. I don't have a problem if they keep talking to their co-worker, but c'mon, do two things at one time. Ringing up items and talking? If you can't do those two things at the same time then you should be shot.

  • no, and i would've went a step further and not have said anything, but after a minute i would've left my items there and left the store. sure, it would suck to have to redo the shopping but I have left items at the checkout after not having my presence acknowledged that initial minute

EDIT, don't know how half my text got cut out after posting but oh well, edited it to re enter text

  • No you're not being a dick. The cashier was not doing her job. I think the manager of the store would agree.

Oh HELL no! She is being paid to wait on you, not bs with her co-worker. Your time is just as valuable as hers and if she needs to be prodded to do her job, so be it. I wouldn't feel the least bit bad.

I see his point. I always take pride in my jobs, no matter what they are, but I also don't let myself get too bothered by younger people that are getting 8 bucks an hour and would rather be with friends. Not that it makes it right, but I try to give them a pass.

Who really expects cashiers to act like they have the most important job in the world? I know most are great but when they are not I am not really surprised its a minimum wage job dealing with customers that want them to act like they want to wipe azz for them. So your cashier didn't run after you with toilet paper I'm sure your day wasn't ruined by it.

I agree with everything you said up until "I try to give them a pass."

If they're a teenager and suck at their job, but are trying, I will be overly nice and accommodating.

If they're a teenager and suck at their job because they don't care, I will not be nice.

Yeah, it bothers me when anybody doesn't care about their job or thinks they're too good for their job, but let's be honest here. It's the world we live in and kids just don't care about jobs.

    I call em out everytime.

I was driving back from IC this morning and stopped in ames at BK. Place is dead and there is a worker talking to a coworker from the customer side of the counter. Well we walk in and she decides to order her food, must have just got off. She stumbles around the menu having a tough time deciding what she wants acting like she has never eaten there before. She finally picks and now its time for her to find her money. Well first she checks her backpack which is about 4x too small for her football like frame, no luck. Next its on to her pants pocket which she cant even get her hand into. She finally pulls out her gangsta roll fingering thru every greasy bill when her "ride" decides she wants an order of fries. By this time Im right beside her in astonishment trying to convey my total disgust nonverbally. Of course when asked what dipping sauce she wants she tells them one of each. It was a disgusting display.

I worked at a gas station during my time in IC. You have 3 things: Be Accurate, Be Fast, Be Friendly. Thats it.
