Buck Russell's best damn music thread (Hey Amigos)

  • MtHawk said...

There is only one way to make this thread last for 14 pages and that is to make it a music pi**ing match. As much as I like some of the tunes you gents have posted. Seems like region vs region, socal vs Seattle vs nyc, vs Detriot etc. Didn't see any love for the Strokes or Jack White. wuwt?

No love for Neil Young? His Bridge concert is a bridge. Name one song that will outlast Keep On Rockin In the Free World. Please.

    Just saying.

    Add some music you dig

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

One Of The Best Ballads ever! Just a beautiful song from pink floyd..ENJOY!! Lyrics: Wish You Were Here (Waters, Gilmour) So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Blue skys from pain. Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade Your heros for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. some infos: Pink Floyd were an English rock band who in the 1960s earned recognition for their psychedelic and space rock music, and in the 1970s, as they evolved, for their progressive rock music. Pink Floyd's work is marked by philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, innovative album cover art, and elaborate live shows. One of rock music's most critically acclaimed and commercially successful acts, the group has sold over 200 million albums worldwide including 74.5 million certified units in the United States. Pink Floyd influenced progressive rock artists of the 1970s including Genesis and Yes

    Neil Young - Old Man

February 23, 1971 http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FNeil-Young%2Fe%2FB000APYJWA%3Fqid%3D1280679945%26sr%3D8-2-ent&tag=tra0c7-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325 Watch the full show: http://thesixtiesarchive.blogspot.com/2010/12/neil-young-live-in-concert-1971.html "Old Man" is a song written and performed by Neil Young on his 1972 album Harvest. The song was written for the caretaker of the Northern California Broken Arrow Ranch, which Young purchased for $350,000 in 1970. The song compares a young man's life to an old man's and shows that the young man has, to some extent, the same needs as the old one. James Taylor played six-string banjo (tuned like a guitar) and sang on the song, and Linda Ronstadt also contributed vocals. In the movie Heart of Gold, Young introduces the song as follows: "About that time when I wrote (Heart of Gold), and I was touring, I had also -- just, you know, being a rich hippie for the first time -- I had purchased a ranch, and I still live there today. And there was a couple living on it that were the caretakers, an old gentleman named Louis Avala and his wife Clara. And there was this old blue Jeep there, and Louis took me for a ride in this blue Jeep. He gets me up there on the top side of the place, and there's this lake up there that fed all the pastures, and he says, "Well, tell me, how does a young man like yourself have enough money to buy a place like this?" And I said, "Well, just lucky, Louie, just real lucky." And he said, "Well, that's the darndest thing I ever heard." And I wrote this song for him." —Neil Young He tells a similar story when introducing the song at a February 23, 1971 performance broadcast by the BBC (in which he says that he purchased the ranch from "two lawyers"). The song can be heard in the films Dogtown and Z-Boys, Wonder Boys, and Lords of Dogtown. It can also be heard in Brian Foster's part of the BMX Video "FitLife" made by Fit Bike Co. During actor Heath Ledger's Hollywood memorial service, "Old Man" was chosen to be played with a slideshow of pictures from Ledger's life. At former St. Louis Blues Brett Hull's jersey retirement ceremony, this song was played as his jersey rose to the rafters. "Old Man" was released as a single in the spring of 1972, and reached #31 on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 2. Bob Dylan regularly covered this song at a number of concerts on his 2002 tour, including one at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dylan played the keyboard on his arrangement of the song. The song was covered by American R&B/Soul singer N'Dea Davenport on her 1998 debut album, N'Dea Davenport. In 2004 the song was covered by Canadian folk trio The Wailin' Jennys for their debut full length album, 40 Days. In 2004 the song was covered by Pop trio Wilson Phillips for their covers album, California. In 2005, Lizz Wright covered it on her live album Dreaming Wide Awake, recorded at Allaire, Shokan, New York the year before. In 2007, Grand National covered the song on their album A Drink and a Quick Decision as a live bonus track. In 2009, German Metal band Motorjesus covered the song on their 100.000 Volt Survivor EP. In 2010, Donna Loren covered the song on her album Love It Away.

Wlcsqd use to joke about Bob Dylan and Neil Young all the time. I never really liked Neil Young. I just couldn't get into his voice. Which is funny because I love me some Bob Dylan. But you asked for a song. Here you go.

OK Agreed. Neil has a human voice that some don't like, but for me he has a musical voice I just can't shake. Of course Bob's, Like A Rollingstone is classic. I was just out of high school in W Iowa in 65. Heard that album at my sisters place outside of Ames at the time . A real eye opener for me but apples and oranges just like this thread...

I might be old but I ain't dead. I like Pearl Jam and think it's great that Soundgarden is back. Haven't heard any of that yet.

If it's Rock and Roll I like it. Thanks Mick. They had a couple of good tunes too.

    Green Day - You Lied

TITLE: You Lied ALBUM: Shenanigans YEAR: 2002 SINGLE? No - LYRICS - You've got a problem you just can't hide Compulsive habits that never seem to die Your breath is taking up all the air Your teeth are rotting To black holes in your head Well, reality is due What you say just can't be true When the story's stretched And so far-fetched That you're lacking an excuse You lied Your mother allowed just one white lie But now she's dead and she left you with a problem Pinnochio has pierced your tongue Your nose is growing into the third dimension Well, reality is due What you say just can't be true When the story's stretched And so far-fetched That you're lacking an excuse You lied Oh, you lied Well, reality is due What you say just can't be true When the story's stretched And so far-fetched That you're lacking an excuse You lied *DISCLAIMER* I do not own this song or the lyrics. It all belongs to Reprise Records and Green Day. I am not posting these songs for money; they are posted for the entertainment of viewers.
