    @brad - how do you think they ruined it? If you say judges, wouldn't you agree that UFC's judges have been bad lately? One thing I hate about boxing is the hassles to get the match ups. I'm going to be a big UFC fan after Metcalf joins in 2016. I still like both pretty equally

    Hassles for the match ups yes, exploded pay outs for crap fights, Don King,Don King, Don King. It was ruined for me years ago plus they stand and punch and UFC is a whole helluva lot more exciting to me (and I was literally raised in a boxing family for 15 years) And judges suck in every sport easy way to beat that is TO FINISH THE FIGHT...... And now all the drama with Floyd and Manny I mean trying to get the best fights available is next to impossible anymore. Not that I don't love boxing still I just like mma more.

  • Huge boxing fan in the 90's. Still enjoy watchin ESPN Classic matches going back as far as video cameras do. I dont watch boxing anymore, and dont know anybody that does. I dont enjoy UFC. Dont like how you are allowed to hit a guy thats down. Do enjoy the wrestling aspect of it tho.

  • I used to be a huge boxing fan, up until the early 90's and I, too, blame Don King and his ilk for ruining it, as well as pay-per-view. The big fights used to be on TV all the time until then. I have never paid for a boxing match in my life. I was a bartender at the time of the Tyson-Michael Spinx fight and I still remember the people trooping into the bar that night pissed off because they spent $50 (or whatever) for a one round embarrassment. I have never watched enough MMA to become a fan, it just doesn't excite me.

  • I boxed in my youth and loved boxing. Grew up with it, and like Brad and Bluz I felt that it was ruined by Don King and pay per view. I grew up watching Ali, and Larry Holmes etc defend their titles on network tv. so I thought it was pure greed to put championship bouts on pay per view, and I thought it wound up limiting the audience and stunting the growth of the fan base.
    I think the UFC was very business smart in how they have marketed MMA. Using reality tv and bouts on cable networks to draw a fan base in and grow it. I admit that I enjoy watching it and think that it is certainly more popular than boxing now.

  • I started as a big boxing fan during the Friday Nite Fights era in the 50's. Was and still am a boxing fan. However, when they broke things up into the WBO/NABF/WBA, etc, etc, it lost some luster with me because there was no chance at their ever being another undisputed champion in any division. I used to be able to check RING magazine and know who was ranked in every weight division. Now, You can't count the number of people ranked in all the possible permutations of the boxing heirarchy.

    I love MMA. Most of the time it is very exciting. Seeing two men, or women who are evenly matched and proficient in their styles of fighting, makes for some great matchups. I love MMA. It's an actual fight (except for a few dangerous activities) rather than a dance.
