I get that. But Back and Black and Iowa football go hand and hand. Any Iowa fan that hears that song thinks the same thing. It may be old and outdated. But it's tradition. I don't know, I do like it. But I get why some people would want to do away with it as well.

as much as hearing "Back in Black" makes me excited for hawkeye football, a bad season and the wal mart ads are starting to ruin the song forever.

Also Wolf quit say stupid sh** like reading is fundamental & comprehension sucks. I read your foolish post and I laughed. Yes the past effects the future but of most the bands I've ever listen to none have said ACDC influenced their music. None. So maybe you should go "read" up and try to "comprehend" the fact they sucked and no thesis papers will be ever be written on the effects of ACDC had like Elvis, Led, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Nirvana, etc on rock.

Did I say they had more influence than Elvis, Zep, Floyd, etc? No. I said they had a bigger impact overall than the likes of the Offspring, Soundgarden, etc.

I'm not asking you to personally like AC/DC. I'm just trying to point out how they should be respected for their contribution to music. I'm not a big Elvis fan, but I respect his contributions to rock.

I don't get the hate for the 80's music by the 90's kids. shrug My particular genre was late 70's early 80's as that's when I was in my teenage years. But I don't hate the music of the 60's just because I grew up in the 70's and 80's. To the contrary, I love alot of the music of the 60's. I also enjoy some of the 90's grunge. I don't like 99% of rap, although I do enjoy the soundtrack from the movie Office Space. MJ had alot of talent...I just can't seem to get past the fact that he was a pedophile. So I guess with many of you haters of good rock and roll, we're just going to have to agree to disagree.

To be fair JS, you can't really compare the quality of music in the 60's to the 80's; especially in the Rock genre.

I'm failing to come up with any significant Rock bands in the 80's. (edit: GnR)

As mentioned before, AC/DC's best stuff was in the 70's (and 1980)
the Stones were done making significant music in the early 70's (Exile on Main St.)
it's difficult for me to consider Aerosmith a "great" rock band (I can take their first album seriously)
Def Leppard had one good song
I can't name any good Van Halen songs w/DLR (I don't count covering The Kinks), and I hate Sammy Hagar
I seriously cannot name one Rush song
I hate hate hate Iron Maiden/Judas Priest type stuff
Bon Jovi is the hairiest of a million hair bands

Guns N Roses were great (and able to separate themselves from the hair band thing)
I love Dire Straits through '86
Phil Collins/Genesis were good, but only looking back as an adult can I appreciate them.
U2 didn't come on my radar until the 90's (but did put out good stuff in the 80's)

Meanwhile, the 60's (and early 70's) put out some of the best rock music of all time.

  • everytime i listen to nirvana, i just think to myself how much i like their tunes and wonder what would've happened if Kurt hadn't offed himself. Bleach is killer. I love the foo fighters though, so all was not lost when Kurt offed himself (Foo is probably one of the few bands that get played on rock radio that i enjoy).

as far as AC/DC... one of my favorites "rock and roll ain't noise pollution".

  • and as much as I fell in love with Rage Against the Machine, when i saw them open for Cypress Hill, i hate them at the same time for opening the door to many of the awful "rap rock" bands that soon followed their popularity.

Soundgarden? They were ok but they were way down the list. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, then maybe Sound Garden. I saw them live and enjoyed it. But their albums weren't that great IMO. They had like a pretty good album and another ok album.

i cannot stand Cornell's voice. couldn't get into soundgarden, and really couldn't get into Audioslave

  • I just find it funny everyones different taste in music and what they think is good or not. In a poll by PEERS AC/DC is a top 10 band so for any of you that think they didn't change music or suck well that is your opinion. Nirvana was 4 or 5 I can' remember exactly but I do agree they changed music/rock probably more than anyone since the beetles. 80's rock was fun/party rock, so happy people that don't want to kill themselves or just be pissed off or sad all the time liked that genre. Now enters Nirvana with a sadder, down with the man, please stab me with needles and slap me with a belt so I can get off rock(which I also liked) But they did send music into a different direction and for that have to be considered one of the best of our time. Anyway music is like pizza not everyone will agree and it doesn't make any of us a lesser person for liking what we like. NOW SHUT THE HELL UP AND HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.s You guys are great and I think the world of all of you and I am thankful I found this site to enjoy wasting time, belittling, teasing and whatever the hell else we do here. peace

Also, Black Eyed Peas. Maybe BEP instead of Phish, though BEP and Pretty Ricky aren't really "bands" since they don't play or write any of their own music.

  • Pretty Ricky is the kind of music that they played at dances when I was in high school. In related news, I didn't go to dances in high school.

If you can't name one Rush song, one good Van Halen song, can't appreciate anything Aerosmith did after the first album, don't appreciate anything after Exile or can't understand that Iron Maiden is probably the second most influential metal band ever after Black Sabbath, then you probably shouldn't discuss music on a public forum.
