Saw Maurice Fleming. He’s built like an upright greyhound. Built for speed.

Iowa DL Steve Bigach said Jaleel Johnson and Faith Ekakitie are big fellas. Johnson reported at a good 323.

Iowa upperclassmen welcome frosh RB Greg Garmon with open arms. Eager to show him the way.

CJF explained the “getting big in the paint” concept. He’s 6-7, 265. He’a already big in the paint.

  • Those are all great. I don't think Johnson being at his weight is a concern being that it sounds like a solid 323. Iowa has the potential to have a surprising defensive squad. Linebackers are very good, secondary may be the best in the conference. With Cooper, who I thought could have played and played well last year, teamed with JJ and some of the returning veterans, I really think this defense has a chance to be better than expected.

Combine that with what I think will be a very good offense, especially in the passing game and I think Iowa can really surprise a lot of folks. Michigan is really the only team I expect to be exceptional. Michigan St has HUGE questions marks imo and are being completely overvalued. Minnesota and Northwestern aren't world beaters and Iowa get the Huskers in Kinnick. I expect this team to surprise people.

  • It's not the here and now that worries me, it's keeping these guys all 4 and 5 years in the program. The attrition has killed this program. I am looking at the future, seeing these kids develop. Iowa can't throw all their freshman into the fire. Some will need some seasoning before they see the field. Johnson may be 323 pounds, but he is not "college" ready.

BTW, those tweets were sure awesome to read!

I would wager that Jaleel is more college ready than Faith Ekakitie or any of the other DL guys we just brought in. Don't be surprised if Johnson sees the field this year.

Everything Ive read has said expect Faith Ekakitie to redshirt. Needs to learn the postition. It would be nice if we could redshirt them all, meaning our upperslassmen have it covered.

With dline pressure Iowa's defensive philosophy is tough to move the ball on.

Without pressure it makes Steele Janz look like Steve Young.

Difference between like 10-2 or 7-5 imo.

Same thing I've heard, Ekakitie has only been playing football for a few years I think. I would also agree that I hate seeing all of these younger guys being forced into the lineups, however I think we've got a ton of very good and athletic players along the DL who will make up front a dominant force in the next couple of years.

It would be awesome if some of the guys who left, hadn't because this was their time. Sounds like John Raymon is possibly trying to get back on the team, Rodney Coe is about ready to finally join the team, and of course it doesn't help that Anthony Ferguson is I believe still enrolled at Iowa, yet not on the team.
