You guys see what Coe is tweeting?

  • Pretty much said since he's not going to play RB at Iowa he's going elsewhere. Than says he thinks he'll end up playing Dline and he doesn't want to play at Iowa than claims he hates snow now even though he grew up in Illinois and will have to play in it if the little chubster makes it in the NFL.

Sorry did my best but my tweeter language still isn't there

Oh I get it now. OSU, Auburn, USC and Miami must have started to recruit him.

  • This is an absolute monumental breakdown and I am loving every minute of it. His replies to other people are killing me. Just another case of people snap reacting and posting immediately on twitter.

  • Really wish Iowa fans wouldn't tweet at recruits.

    tha_prophet

  • Wow, why do retarded fans insist on making a bad situation worse? No good is going to come out of them tweeting the kid, why not give him some room and let him and the coaches figure it out. A handful of 15 year old fans make us look really bad sometimes...

    hawkeyepride06

  • Both sides are at fault.

Why does Coe have a public account? I know I wouldn't. Why tweet stupid things? He hates snow? And the way he tweeted what he tweeted was dumb as well. Just tweet if for godsakes you have to tweet "Iowa coaches no longer recruiting me, looking for new school I guess" instead of the other bullcrap

Two why do random idiots tweet a person they don't know? If you wanna talk about Coe go to a message board, don't stalk him via interwebs. I wish you couldn't make fake tweeter accounts for this reason, that way when you wanna call a 280lb Coe chubby and lazy on his personal FB or tweeter, well than at least a 280lb Coe can show up at your door to respond to such a wussie act if he were so inclined.

  • If he wants to play running back so bad then he needs to get off his behind and drop 30 pounds or more. I mean i wouldn't mind a 250/260 pound back but from what I heard he is closer to 280ish and not a good 280. He will play d line where every he goes if he stays at that weight and that is the cold hard truth.

Just FYI, @hawkeyeinsider is Rob Howe who is a "reporter" for Scout....and why I no longer peruse Hawkeye Insider. How 'bout you FU?

Here is one of Coe's replies not listed here..."understandable but don't just tell me I'm not gonna be a rb, give me a shot if it doesnt work atleast I tried"

Adrian Clayborn jumped in and basically called Rob a "coward".

Part of the problem was that RH was retweeting every nasty comment he could. He claims that he retweets them to "show" how dumb THEY look. Which is too lol

  • Well you already broke the first two rules but.....

3rd RULE: If Kozan says "stop" or goes limp, signs his LOI the recruitment is over.

4th RULE: Only one Kozan to a school.

5th RULE: The Kozan wait will go on as long as they have to.

6th and final rule: If this is your first night at the Kozans, you have to offer.

Yeah I noticed that. I think the coaches didn't want a Derby 2.0 and told him that dline is the position they see him at. I'm sure it's hard to accept this news when your heart was set on proving the nay sayers wrong.

I hope Coe learned his lesson on how to tweet. I doubt Rob Howe(doIhaveapresspass) learned his lesson on retweeting negative info. And it appears the Iowa staff has learned their lesson on position changes, that being its best to just be up front.

You have absolutely no idea how much or how little of a chance Derby was given at QB, at the end of the day the coaches felt he could help the team out better and have a better chance of playing if he switched to LB. Everyone needs to stop claiming he never had a chance because unless you know something we all don't than you have zero right to comment on the situation.

As far as Rodney Coe goes, how much better are you than the fans tweeting back to him for posting this stuff on a message board and saying he's acting like a child? I'm not trying to single anyone out here but seriously, let's quit speculation here. Do I think recruits do a lot of stupid things, yes, do I think my friends and I (I'm 21 remember) do stupid things, you bet your ass. So can we please stop having threads based purely on speculation?

Slow down turbo, I'm not going to even argue you on AJ cause it doesn't make a difference anymore. But it's pretty oblivious to everyone else how that situation started & end.

Message boards are for fans to communicate with fans. Tweeter and Facebook is to communicate with a person directly, so I'd say there is a difference.

As for threads on speculation. SORRY, next time I'll instant message you for your approval on my final copy. But just a reminder it is the offseason so good luck, cause 80% of the news/threads you hear this time of year will be speculation (IE: Who's going to play next year?) or bad news (IE: JohnDoe busted with an OWI).

I think there's definitely a difference between discussing a potential Iowa player on a message board and actually tweeting negative comments to him. By playing or coaching (or potentially playing or coaching) at a school like Iowa, they all open themselves up to a certain amount of public scrutiny. I do think it's over-the-top to harass them on twitter, but I don't think there's anything wrong with discussing them on a message board.

I don't see the difference. If the premise of what is directed towards him whether on a message board, twitter, facebook, etc., is "he's an idiot" I don't know how it's not the same thing. I can understand what he's going through, as the same sort of thing happened to me in high school and it destroyed me, I also do a lot of stupid stuff though when I'm pissed off. Yes, is sending them messages or linking their names to things on facebook or twitter going overboard and totally uncalled for but again, if all you're basically saying is "he's an idiot" than I think you (not you persay) should just shut up. PEOPLE, young AND old, do stupid stuff and if this is an isolated incident which is what I'm assuming considering I've never heard anything bad (other than grades) about Coe before, than you have no right to just call him an idiot an hour after what he says. I know when I say stupid stuff I usually take it down within 24 hours of posting it, I can't speak and say for sure that Coe has deleted his posts but I'm sure he's learned the same thing I have before. At the very least at least give the guys 24 hours before you guys go apecensored on the kid.

Honestly if I was in Coe's position, I don't know exactly how I would feel as it's my dream to play RB, but I gained too much weight and am now being looked at as a DE, I would HOPE I or someone close to me would realize that it's partially my fault, but that's just more reason to work harder this off-season and prove to everyone that I can still play RB.

Because there is a good chance he doesn't go to Iowa247sports.com, HN.com, HI.com, HR.com, HL.com, or BHGP.com but I'm certain he checks his tweeter news feed or goes to Facebook.com

Difference is he can personally make the choice to not visit hawkeye board message websites, where as if your a tool and do it on his FB page he has to face a meaningless random opinion.

I know if I was a football player I wouldn't go to these sites, why would I? To read information that I already knew, no thanks I could careless what a bunch of middle age men are saying about me too. Yup, I wouldn't be on a message board cause I'd be too busy playing with the jersey chaser on my bed board. And I wouldn't have my facebook open to the public to write on or inbox, just to read updates

Yeah, Ummm This is my take on your gripe. Coe first of all started tweeting this stuff on his public account. When a player/recruit does that they know damn well they are going to get a ton of response from the fanbase or other fanbases, that is just the way it is and that is not changing anytime soon. While I don't agree with people engaging in idiotic arguments and twitter catfights, I also realize that everything has a starting point and in these cases it is the athlete posting and basically throwing the bait out there to get some attention.

As far as the message boards are concerned, it is totally different. First of all we are not interacting with the recruits on message boards, we are merely discussing/speculating with our own opinions. If you don't like to discuss you have the god given right to just be a lurker or not read at all.

I'm with you in that I don't think much good comes out of social media in college athletics, but it is a huge business and like any business the customer(fans) always wants more and more information. Now with social media they can get information and much more if they choose. Personally I think it is lame for the average grown man to interact with recruits via twitter. The problem is there are alot of losers out there with negative agendas that make a large fan base look bad.

Like FUISU said, he can pretty easily avoid message boards, but he can't avoid his twitter/facebook accounts. And think about all the criticism athletes likes Terrelle Pryor, Tebow, LeBron, A-Rod, etc face on a daily basis on message boards. Unfortunately, if someone wants to play or coach at the major college and/or professional level, that comes with the territory.

Booner also made a great point about Coe initiating this. I think most of us agree that we think it's inappropriate for fans to bash players over their personal twitter or facebook accounts. But Coe, like Jaleel Johson did, had to have known that his comments would trigger some sort of response. I fully understand that 18-19 year olds make mistakes all the time, so I don't have a huge problem with what they did, but they clearly share some of the responsibility for the whole situation.
