Who ya got for the Heisman?

  • I have heard people say if Notre Dame stays undefeated Manti Te'o should get it. Seems like it could be a good year for a defensive player to get it. shrug I don't think any qb is really running away with it, are they?

  • I thought Geno Smith of West Virginia had this locked up in early October. Matt Barkley is out of the picture since he has last several games and is injured going into the ND showdown next week. Calvin Klein seams to be wearing out his britches now. The Stars at Oregon are too numerous to earn support or any single candidate. Ohio State's post season ban probably taints the candidacy of any Buckeye. Florida, Georgie, and LSU are great teams with a lot of very good players. But I don't see any stars that will ring up Heisman support. Teo is Notre Dame's best candidate. Why not?

    1.) I hate the idea of the Heisman winner HAS to be on the undefeated team.
    2.) I hate the idea that the Heisman winner HAS to be a QB.

  • I've honestly become extremely frustrated with this award. Is it an honor to win it? Of course. But in no way does it signify the best player in college football - not even close. What it's turned into is the quarterback, running back or receiver on a top-15 team that gets the most publicity and puts up the best stats. If they ever start truly giving it to the best player in the country, I'd pay much more attention to it.

  • Guess if it goes to the player that means the most to his team I would vote for Collin Klein.

    Its a great honor to win this award but to me it doesnt mean AS much anymore. Reggie Bush and Cam Newton. I dont watch the presentation live anymore, this may be the first time Ive thought about it this year.

    I get all that. But I guess I can see the other side. QBs impact the game more than anyone else on the field. So it would be kind of hard giving it to a dominant defensive tackle on a pretty good team, over a QB or RB on a undefeated or BCS team. That being said, I really don't care who wins the award.

    Beg to differ...Johnny Manziel will be the runaway winner...as he IS the best player in college football.

    241 of 356 for 67.7 completion percentage...3,047 yards (277 yards per game average)...21 TD's to 7 INT's...Oh and 172 rushing attempts for 1,114 yards (101 yards per game average) and 17 TD's

    vs Marqise Lee (best WR in college football)...107 receptions...1,605 yards (15.0/ catch...145 yards per game average) and 14 TD's...Oh and 11 rushes for 107 yards...and OK...24 kickoff returns for 704 yards (29.33 yards per return) and 1 TD.

    Gotta throw in the fact that Manziel beat 'Bama IN 'Bama...and lost to Florida and LSU...while Lee's team marquee win (pun intended) was @ Washington and has lost to every ranked team they've faced. Not even close.

  • I like Klein and Manziel the real deal. But a freshman doesn't have a shot does he? Too bad about the Baylor game. I think Klein deserves it if KSU takes care of Texas and be competitive in their bowl game.

  • Isn't it ironic that the very first Heisman winner was Dubuque's own Jay Berwanger, the star on a 4-7 University of Chicago football team that would drop football altogether a few years later.

    I would like to see a defensive player win it, so I am going with Mante Te'o.

    The voting process needs to be seriously reformed, bringing in players from all positions.
