  • I know that I learned that watching this team makes me want to put my head through the wall banghead

  • I haven't watched many games this year. But when I have the offense never seems fluid. They don' seem to move the ball around well. They don't seem to be in control of the ball.

I completely disagree. This team has made huge progress in a short time and is so young. I agree with you on almost everything, Buck, but I can't see how you can say this.

They move the ball around better than any team in the conference besides Indiana or Michigan.

  • What we learned? We learned that Teddy Balentine takes his orders well, from the
BigTen office. You are NOT to allow Mich State and Izzo brand to lose under any circumstance.

How is it possible that 15 minutes thru the 2nd half, Iowa has committed 8 fouls, yet the
'Sparties' only get called for 3? Are you F***8** kidding me? The Hawkeyes still had their chances to win,
however the pathetic refs made it nearly impossible.

I didn't see that at all. I did miss the first half, so there is that. But a lot of the time I watch they will move it a little bit then back out and have to come up with some crazy shot to beat the shot clock. Again I don't watch all the time so I'm probably missing some things. Just my twocents

Just because they made huge progress, which I agree with by the way, doesn't mean they still didn't frustrate the hell out of me many times this season. I do understand they are young, but I still get frustrated.

There were definitely some sloppy passes, but keep in mind that Marble is the only ball handler that's not a freshman, and Izzo is a flat out genius as a coach.

Yeah, but the one thing I was thinking about after that game finished tonight was how upset I was that Iowa just lost in basketball. I have gotten upset this season when they have let ones slip away, and maybe some last season, but it has been quite some time for basketball that I felt like I got a gut punch because of a loss. I get them for football and wrestling for losses almost always. Used to be that way with basketball, despite the crappy feeling, I am glad Iowa basketball has given me a reason to be passionate about it again.

Agree and it's a great thing. The program is back. I will watch every Hawk bball and football game, no matter how good or bad they are, but it sure is more fun watching the better times.

  • What is REALLY going to p--- me off is if the guffers get in to the tourney and we don't !! While I agree that we stand a much better chance of playing more games in the NIT ( expressed that in another post) these young men worked so hard for this win and demonstrated that they deserve to be in the NCAA. Minn. deserves to be in the NIT based on their play the last 10 games. I really don't give a rip about their rpi, bpi,or any other ranking - they deserve nothing! frustrated

Even thought Iowa is obviously better than Minny or the Illini, they beat some quality opponents outside of the Big Ten. Fran/Barta took some risks playing low quality opponents early to get some easy wins and confidence for a young team and it came vack to burn them in the end. Iowa took the risk that they wouldn't lose any games they weren's supposed to but that critical loss to Nebraska on the road sealed their fate. That Purdue loss hurt too.

The nice thing going forward - Iowa is at a point now where they don't need to (and better not) schedule a bunch of patsies. The talent level is there to compete with anyone. May's defensive stopper ability will be missed though. Not sure who will pick up that role when he is gone, but better outside shooting from Jok and Uthoff should help immensely.

It's a bright future if we can keep building in recruiting.

  • It is frustrating - but as others have said in the string - it's good to see such improvement from the Lick-years! Iowa needs a couple guys to step up and close- out games - they left quite a few wins on the table (including both of the MSU games- either they're not the #8 team in the country or Iowa is much closer to the top 25 than I thought) this year. With this years experiences - someone needs to step up. My guess - Gesell.

I agree with you that Iowa generally moves the ball well. Against Michigan State, it wasn't quite as good as it usually is, so I see what Morrison is saying there. But a lot of that is due to how good Michigan State is on defense, as the Spartans really weren't conceding anything.

  • The main thing is EVERYONE is once again PASSIONATE about Iowa basketball !! - the players, the coaches, AND most importantly, the fans.

Iowa basketball is back! For too many years I did not even bother to turn on the TV to watch and did not even read the next day's newspaper write-ups about each game. Just DID NOT CARE anymore.

Now I do.......and a whole bunch of other Iowa fans too! Iowa basketball is becoming a tradition once again.

Fran really is THE MAN! Some great things coming down the road for the Hawks. flex

Golden, I was so inspired by your post that I sent a special request to my sister, who is quite close to God and, I believe, even sits on His rules committee.... to have her ask Him to make sure my life on this earth is extended for at least the next five years so I can enjoy our basketball team's glorious future.

Great post, and I completely agree. The passion among the fans surrounding this season's stretch run is evidence that this program is back and headed in the right direction once again.

I think part of Iowa's problem is they actually pass more than they need to. If someone just stepped up to take a shot, the offense would look a little bit better. Iowa passes very well and also moves without the ball at a good level too.

  • Iowa needs a consistent outside threat. If Jok turns out to be advertised and Woody and Olaseni continue to develop, the future looks bright.

Remember Year One of McCaffery's tenure? The progress is palpable.

I think one reason for the overpassing at times is that there aren't enough players that can create their own shot. Because of that, a lot of those guys are waiting until they're wide open before they shoot.

Sparty, correct....no surprise that this was the worst three point shooting Hawkeye team since 2002...under 30%.
