What do you think we still need to get to?

  • It's frustrating to watch this Iowa team miss easy lay-ups and free throws which would have won us probably 2 or 3 more games.

Michigan St., Purdue, and Minnesota should have all been wins IMO had we closed the game out with making makable buckets and free throws.

I don't see a win at Wisconsin or Indiana.
Northwestern, Penn St., Minnesota, Nebraska, and Purdue should all be wins.

Illinois will be a toss up and finishing with Nebraska should be a win.

So can we get in to the NCAA tourney with 9 conference (.500 B1G record) wins?

Losses like the Minnesota game Sunday are getting frustrating.

  • It's hard to imagine that this team can win ALL those games. Some of the preseason losses should have made it obvious that this is not a team that could contend at this point, and is still one or two years away from an NCAA berth. They are losing close games and that to me is a good sign in the sense that with experience they will learn to win close games in the coming years especially with the addition of three very good players next year (making IA one of the deepest teams in the nation). As much as I hate to say it,for now I'd be happy with a couple of wins in NIT!

To make it in at 9-9, I think Iowa would have to make it to the finals of the B1G Tournament. Or, for whatever reason, Iowa would have to have at least the seventh best resume in the conference.

  • The Hawks just can't seem to get over the hurdle of winning a big game away from home. I am hoping that they gel down the stretch and win 3 games at a minimum in the tournament in order to capture a NCAA birth

  • If Iowa wins the rest of the games that they should, they'd be sitting pretty for an easier game in the Big Ten Tournament. I think if they do win those games, and advance a round into the tournament, there is a good chance for the NCAA. The only problem is, Iowa needs an RPI boost. Winning at home against the bad Big Ten teams won't do much. Iowa really needs Wisconsin to finish very strong as its the best win so far.

  • I still think Iowa has 4 or 5 winnable games (Nebraska twice) before the B1G Tourney.

I think if Iowa can win against Northwestern, Penn St., Minnesota, Nebraska, and Purdue, plus a win or 2 in the B1G tourney, they will make the NCAA tournament. All of the games listed should be Iowa victories. I was not impressed with Minnesota. The Gophers will lose to Iowa at Carver and hopefully they will still be ranked (which will look good on Iowa's resume).

  • I really believe we can win 7 of the next 9. Losses to Wis. and Ind. but others are all winnable. Had we made some free throws in a couple of games we probably wouldn't be talking about this but would be talking seedings for the BIG! Oh well ! shrug

I agree with this. Iowa has a few more wins than I thought they would at this point so I am not disappointed overall. I am upset that they continue to blow late leads. If Iowa wins 7 plus 1 or 2 BTT they should be very close, or in, the NCAA.

  • It is down to ILL and Iowa for the 7 spot in the B1G. Seven more wins plus one win in the B1G Tournament, and they might sneak in.

  • the situation really isn't a lot different than it was in december. get to at least 500 in league play and finish in the top 7 during the b10 season to get a good strong look. without a win or two in the tnmnt, the team would be vulnerable with those minimal qualifications. what has changed since december is our confidence that the hawks can win at least 9 league games. the second half of the league schedule is easier than the first, but i have a hard time getting too optimstic. deep as they are, there is no 5-man combo that can perform reliably on offense and defense. the recent disappearance of mr. marble is not a good development. finally, while we all appreciate the calories the guys expend, their effort lacks that something special that wins games. they're not good enuf to avoid close games and aren't blessed with the magic that wins a big share of close games.
