  • Couple of other names of interest are Akeel Lynch and Andre McDonald. Just think if we had landed those two as well. I am hoping for a big game for the Hawkeye recruits. I wanna see Tevaun burn Richardson...bad!

Why the hate for Richardson? Btw...the US team has some serious talent!

  • Just returned home from the International Bowl and was able to speak to all 3 recruits after the game. I am very, very, impressed with these guys both as atheletes and individuals. We have three great ambassadors for the University of Iowa and they will represent us well. I'm looking forward to watching these guys under Kirk. Definitely class acts!

    Go Hawks!

That's awesome that you got to meet all three of them. From having talked to them as well, I completely echo your sentiments. Exactly like you said, all three are great kids, and will be valuable assets to Iowa both on and off the field. What did they have to say?

  • They all said they were excited to come to Iowa City and proud to be Hawkeyes. Talked to Garmon first since team USA was on our side of the field. Talked a little about Erie, PA and the proud Hawkeye tradition from that town. The International team was on the other side of the field and we were spotted by Tevaun and Faith who came over smiling and talked a little about the game. Greg returned from the locker room and we talked a little more with all three (added a picture to my last post)...so impressed, just blown away by these guys.

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like a very neat experience, and I hope you get a chance to visit with them at future spring practices and games at Kinnick. Garmon really has a personality that just lights up a room, and I can see him becoming a great leader at Iowa because people will be drawn to him.

  • Smith looked very impressive in the game! He is very smooth and makes everything look effortless. He is fast, has great body control, and has very good hands - he snagged everything thrown to him. He ran an end around from their 1 yard line and showed his speed in picking up a first down. I am very excited about him and Mabin and think they'll both have great careers.

Garmon didn't have very many carries and looked very slim. I think he looks closer to 180 than 200 lbs. I'm starting to think that maybe Hill has a better chance to get carries next year just because of physical maturity. I hope he can put on some good weight before next season.

I'm high on Smith as well, and I know the Hawkeye coaches think he can be very dangerous in the return game and at receiver.

One thing to keep in mind about Garmon is that he weighed 200 entering his senior season, but probably lost some of that over the course of the season. Now that he's not playing three sports for the first time, I'd expect him to arrive in Iowa City bigger and stronger. And once he's able to train with Coach Doyle year-round, it will be fun to watch what he develops into.
